FAQ
How do I make money quickly in the early game?
Money is crucial in Yakuza 0 for upgrading your fighting styles and purchasing essential items. Here are some early-game strategies:
- Street Fights: Engage with every group of thugs you see. While individual payouts are small, they add up quickly. Focus on Heat Actions for bonus cash.
- Mr. Shakedown: This is your primary early-game money-making method.
- Strategy: Save your game before approaching Mr. Shakedown. Engage him in a fight. If you win, you'll get a massive payout (often 10x your current cash). If you lose, he'll take all your money. You can then reload your save and try again.
- Recommended Styles: For Kiryu, use Brawler for its balanced offense and defense, or Rush for quick dodges and counter-attacks. For Majima, Thug is good for crowd control, and Breaker can deal significant damage once you unlock some Heat Actions.
- Location: Mr. Shakedown appears randomly in Kamurocho (Kiryu) and Sotenbori (Majima). Listen for his distinct roar and look for a large, intimidating figure on your mini-map.
- Selling Plates: Various "Plates" (Bronze Plate, Silver Plate, Gold Plate, Platinum Plate) can be found in safes, as rewards, or dropped by enemies. These are purely for selling to pawn shops (like Ebisu Pawn in Kamurocho or The Dragon & Tiger in Sotenbori) for significant sums.
What are the best ways to upgrade my fighting styles?
Upgrading your fighting styles is essential for tackling tougher enemies and bosses. Each character has three base styles, plus a secret fourth style unlocked later.
- Kiryu's Styles:
- Brawler: Balanced, good for general combat. Focus on unlocking Heat Actions and defensive abilities first.
- Rush: Fast and agile, excellent for dodging and quick combos. Prioritize unlocking evasive maneuvers and combo extenders.
- Beast: Slow but powerful, ideal for crowd control and weapon usage. Invest in damage upgrades and abilities that allow you to pick up heavier objects.
- Majima's Styles:
- Thug: Versatile, good for dealing with multiple enemies. Focus on unlocking wide-sweeping attacks and Heat Actions that hit multiple targets.
- Slugger: Uses a baseball bat for powerful, wide-arc attacks. Prioritize bat-related Heat Actions and upgrades that increase your reach and damage.
- Breaker: Dance-based, highly mobile, and excellent for area-of-effect damage. Unlock the various dance moves and their associated Heat Actions.
- Spending Money: Your primary method of upgrading is by spending yen at the various "training" spots on your skill tree. The more powerful the upgrade, the more expensive it becomes.
- Training with Masters: Both Kiryu and Majima can learn new abilities and unlock higher tiers of their skill trees by training with specific masters:
- Kiryu:
- Bacchus (Brawler): Found in the alley behind Serena in Kamurocho. Complete his drinking challenges.
- Miss Tatsu (Rush): The "Capoeira Master" found near the Shichifuku Street West taxi stand. Complete her dodging and counter-attack training.
- Kamoji (Beast): The homeless man who teaches you about environmental weapons. Found near the homeless camp in the park.
- Majima:
- Kansai (Thug): The "Weapon Master" who teaches you about various weapon types. Found near the Sotenbori Batting Center.
- Goromi (Slugger): The dominatrix who teaches you advanced bat techniques. Found in the Grand Cabaret.
- Amon (Breaker): The legendary assassin who challenges your dancing skills. Found in the Sotenbori Dance Battle minigame.
- Kiryu:
Are there any missable trophies or content I should be aware of?
While Yakuza 0 is generally forgiving, there are a few things to keep in mind to avoid missing out on certain achievements or side content:
- Substories: Most substories can be completed at any time, even after finishing the main story in Premium Adventure. However, a few are time-sensitive or require specific conditions to be met during certain chapters. It's generally recommended to complete substories as they appear on your map.
- Completion List: The Completion List (accessed via the Pause Menu) tracks various activities like minigames, food consumption, and enemy encounters. Aim for 100% completion in each category to unlock the "Completionist" trophy. None of these are strictly missable, as you can always return in Premium Adventure.
- Real Estate Royale / Cabaret Club Czar: These business management minigames are crucial for unlocking Kiryu and Majima's respective "Legend" fighting styles. They are not missable and can be completed at your own pace.
- Item Acquisition: Some rare items are found in specific safes or as rewards for certain substories. Always check every safe you encounter and try to complete all substories. If you miss an item, you might have to rely on the "Item Finder" ability (unlocked through training) or purchase it from the Dragon & Tiger equipment search.
