Training Masters

Beyond the basic combat techniques, Kiryu can seek out various training masters scattered across Kamurocho and Okinawa to learn advanced moves, unlock powerful Heat Actions, and refine his fighting style. These masters often require specific conditions to be met or items to be found before they will impart their wisdom. Investing time in these training sessions is crucial for tackling the game's tougher challenges and bosses.

Komaki's Training

The legendary Komaki is back, and his training is as rigorous and rewarding as ever. His techniques focus on defensive maneuvers, counter-attacks, and devastating Heat Actions that can turn the tide of any brawl.

  • Location: Komaki's Dojo is located in the back alleys of Nakamichi Street, Kamurocho. You'll find it tucked away in a small courtyard.
  • Unlocking Training:
    1. Initial Encounter: You'll first encounter Komaki as part of the main story in Chapter 5. After this, he'll be available for training.
    2. First Session: Speak to Komaki and agree to train. He'll teach you the Komaki Parry, a crucial defensive technique.
    3. Second Session: After learning the Parry, leave the dojo and return later. Komaki will then offer to teach you the Komaki Tiger Drop. This requires you to successfully parry his attacks several times during the training.
    4. Third Session: For the next technique, the Komaki Dragon Palace Reborn, you'll need to defeat a certain number of enemies using Komaki's techniques. He'll give you a hint about practicing your moves. Return when you feel ready.
    5. Final Session: To learn the ultimate Komaki Dharma, you'll need to prove your mastery by defeating Komaki himself in a sparring match. This is a tough fight, so come prepared with healing items.
  • Key Techniques Learned:
    • Komaki Parry: A quick block that stuns enemies, leaving them open for a counter.
    • Komaki Tiger Drop: A powerful counter-attack that deals massive damage when timed perfectly after a dodge or parry.
    • Komaki Dragon Palace Reborn: A Heat Action that allows Kiryu to recover from being knocked down with a powerful counter.
    • Komaki Dharma: The ultimate counter, allowing Kiryu to grab and throw an enemy after a successful guard.

Minamida and the IF7

While not a traditional martial arts master, Minamida offers a unique form of "training" through his IF7 machine. This device simulates combat scenarios, allowing Kiryu to hone his skills and unlock new abilities by achieving high scores.

  • Location: Minamida's Laboratory is located in the Champion District, Kamurocho. Look for a small, unassuming building.
  • Unlocking Training:
    1. Initial Encounter: Minamida becomes available after completing Substory #10: "The IF7."
    2. Using the IF7: Interact with the IF7 machine. You'll need to pay a small fee (usually ¥1,000) to use it.
    3. Earning Abilities: The IF7 presents various combat challenges. By achieving certain score thresholds or completing specific objectives within the simulations, you'll unlock new abilities and Heat Actions. The challenges range from defeating a certain number of enemies within a time limit to performing specific types of attacks.
    4. Repeated Use: Continue to use the IF7 regularly. New challenges and rewards will become available as you progress through the game and improve your combat prowess.
  • Key Abilities Learned: The IF7 primarily grants passive abilities that enhance Kiryu's combat statistics, such as increased attack power, defense, or Heat gain. It also unlocks unique Heat Actions that are not taught by other masters. Pay attention to the descriptions of the unlocked abilities to understand their benefits.

The Rikiya Training

In Okinawa, Kiryu's adopted son, Rikiya, will occasionally offer to train with him. These sessions are less formal than Komaki's but still provide valuable experience and can unlock new moves.

  • Location: Rikiya can be found at the Ryukyu Street Orphanage in Okinawa, or sometimes wandering around Ryukyu Street.
  • Unlocking Training:
    1. Story Progression: Rikiya's training opportunities become available as you progress through the main story in Okinawa.
    2. Initiating Training: Speak to Rikiya when he has a thought bubble above his head. He'll usually suggest a sparring session or a specific challenge.
    3. Completing Challenges: Rikiya's training often involves simple tasks, such as defeating him in a sparring match (he's not particularly strong), or performing a certain number of specific moves during a street fight.
  • Key Techniques Learned: Rikiya's training primarily focuses on improving Kiryu's basic combat flow and unlocking minor enhancements to existing moves, such as increased damage for certain combos or faster Heat gain. He might also teach a unique Heat Action related to environmental objects.
