Substories are optional side quests that appear as you explore Kamurocho and Okinawa. They are often triggered by walking past a specific location, interacting with an NPC, or entering a certain building. There are over 100 substories in Yakuza 3, each offering a unique narrative and rewards.

How to find Substories:
- Look for speech bubbles: NPCs with a speech bubble icon above their head often initiate substories.
- Explore thoroughly: Many substories are triggered simply by walking into a specific area or overhearing a conversation.
- Check your map: Sometimes, substory starting points will be marked on your map with a question mark icon, especially after you've progressed a bit in the main story.
- Talk to everyone: Engage with NPCs, especially those who seem out of place or are standing alone.
Completing substories often rewards you with EXP, money, and sometimes unique items or even new Heat Actions. Some substories are part of longer chains, so keep an eye out for returning characters. They are a fantastic way to earn extra experience and money, making Kiryu stronger for the main story challenges.
