Boss Strategies (Specific Bosses)
Welcome to the comprehensive boss strategy section for Yakuza 4! This guide will equip you with the knowledge and tactics needed to overcome some of the game's toughest encounters. Remember to always stock up on healing items and prepare your Heat Actions for maximum impact.
Majima Goro (Akiyama's Chapter 2)
The Mad Dog of Shimano is a recurring challenge, and this early encounter with Akiyama sets the tone. Majima is fast, unpredictable, and loves to use his dagger. Your primary goal is to manage his aggression and create openings for your powerful kicks.
- Recommended Items:
- Toughness Z: Found in most convenience stores like Poppo (Nakamichi St.). Essential for quick health recovery.
- Staminan X: Also available at Poppo. Replenishes a good chunk of your Heat Gauge.
- Bento Lunch Set: Can be purchased from M Store (Shichifuku St.). A reliable mid-fight health boost.
- Strategy:
- Dodge and Weave: Majima's attacks are quick. Focus on dodging (R2/RT + X/A) his dagger slashes. Akiyama's evasive maneuvers are key here.
- Counter Kicks: After Majima finishes a combo, there's a brief window to land a few quick kicks. Akiyama's forte is his leg work, so prioritize his square, square, triangle combo.
- Environmental Heat Actions: The bar you fight in has several interactable objects. Look for opportunities to grab Majima and slam him into tables or walls for significant damage. Keep an eye out for the "Heat" prompt (Triangle/Y).
- Heat Gauge Management: Use your Staminan X to keep your Heat Gauge high. Akiyama's Heat Actions, especially his "Essence of Triple Kick," are devastating. Try to save them for when Majima is vulnerable or when you need to quickly reduce his health.
- Second Phase: Once Majima loses about half his health, he'll become even more aggressive and might incorporate a spinning attack. Continue to dodge and counter. Don't get greedy with your attacks; prioritize survival.
Saejima Taiga (Kiryu's Chapter 4)
Kiryu's encounter with Saejima is a test of brute strength and endurance. Saejima is a tank, capable of shrugging off many attacks. You'll need to be patient and exploit his slower movements.
- Recommended Items:
- Toughness Infinity: A rare but incredibly potent healing item. Check the Dragon Palace casino (Theater Square) or certain substories for these.
- Staminan Royale: Found at pharmacies like Kotobuki Drugs (Shichifuku St. East). Fully restores your Heat Gauge.
- Sushi Set (Deluxe): Available at Sushi Gin (Nakamichi St.). Provides a substantial health recovery.
- Strategy:
- Heavy Attacks and Grab Counters: Saejima's attacks are powerful but often have a wind-up. Use Kiryu's heavy attacks (Triangle/Y) after dodging to break his guard or interrupt his charge. Be ready to counter his grabs with a quick button prompt.
- Tiger Drop (If unlocked): If you've trained with Komaki and unlocked the Tiger Drop, this fight becomes significantly easier. Timing it correctly will deal massive damage and stun Saejima, allowing for follow-up attacks.
- Weapon Utilization: The arena might contain various weapons like chairs or signs. Pick them up and use them. Kiryu's weapon Heat Actions are very effective against Saejima's high defense.
- Heat Actions: Kiryu has several powerful Heat Actions. "Essence of the Dragon God" or "Essence of Extreme Bashing" are excellent choices when Saejima is stunned or against a wall. Don't be afraid to use your Staminan Royale to chain these.
- Patience is Key: Saejima has a large health pool. Don't rush in. Chip away at his health, prioritize dodging his powerful charge attacks, and capitalize on his recovery frames.
- Environmental Damage: Like many Yakuza boss fights, look for opportunities to use the environment. Slamming Saejima into pillars or walls will deal bonus damage and potentially stun him.
