Side Cases & Requests
Kamurocho is a bustling district, and while the main story will keep you busy, ignoring the myriad of side cases and requests would be a disservice to your experience and your wallet! These optional missions offer unique challenges, often humorous encounters, valuable items, and a significant boost to your completion percentage. Many side cases are character-specific, meaning they can only be initiated and completed by a particular protagonist. Pay attention to who you're controlling!
General Tips for Side Cases
- Explore Thoroughly: Many side cases are triggered by simply walking past a specific area or overhearing a conversation. Don't rush through the streets; take your time to explore every alley and corner.
- Look for Speech Bubbles: NPCs with a white speech bubble icon above their heads often indicate the start of a side case or a relevant conversation.
- Check Your Map: After initiating a side case, important locations or objectives will often be marked on your mini-map.
- Save Frequently: Some side cases involve combat encounters or choices with consequences. Saving beforehand can prevent frustration if things go awry.
- Stock Up: Before tackling any side case that might involve fighting, ensure you have a good supply of healing items like Toughness Z and Staminan Royale.
- Don't Forget the Rewards: Beyond the immediate cash or items, completing side cases often unlocks new substories, introduces you to new minigames, or even grants experience points that contribute to your character's growth.
Character-Specific Side Cases
Each of the four protagonists has their own set of unique side cases that reflect their personality and circumstances. Below are a few examples and how to approach them:
Akiyama's Side Cases
Akiyama's cases often revolve around his loan shark business, Sky Finance, and his interactions with the people of Kamurocho. Expect to deal with debt collection, helping those in need, and sometimes, a bit of romance.
- The Homeless Man's Request:
- Location: Pink Street North, near the entrance to the Champion District.
- Trigger: As Akiyama, walk past a group of homeless men discussing their plight.
- Walkthrough:
- Speak to the homeless man who approaches you. He'll ask for a small favor.
- He needs a specific item: a Luxury Tissue. You can usually find these in convenience stores like Poppo or M Store, or sometimes as drops from street thugs.
- Return the Luxury Tissue to him.
- He'll then ask for a High-Quality Bento. Purchase this from any convenience store.
- Finally, he'll request a Warm Sake. This can be bought from various restaurants or convenience stores.
- After providing all three items, the man will thank you profusely, and you'll receive 50,000 Yen and a Staminan Spark.
- Strategy: This is a simple fetch quest. Keep an eye out for the requested items as you explore Kamurocho.
Saejima's Side Cases
Saejima's side cases often involve his past, his strength, and his struggles to adapt to modern society. Many will involve combat, so be prepared for a brawl.
- The Runaway:
- Location: Theater Square, near the fountain.
- Trigger: As Saejima, you'll see a young woman being harassed by a group of thugs.
- Walkthrough:
- Approach the group and intervene. This will immediately trigger a fight against three street thugs.
- After defeating them, the young woman, Haruka, will thank you and explain she's a runaway.
- She'll ask for some food. Head to a nearby restaurant like Kyushu No. 1 Star and purchase a Tonkotsu Ramen for her.
- Return to Haruka. She'll eat the ramen and feel better.
- She'll then ask for a place to stay. You can direct her to the homeless camp in the park, or if you've unlocked it, the orphanage (though this option might not be available early on). For this specific case, direct her to the park.
- Follow her to the park entrance. She'll thank you again, and you'll receive 100,000 Yen and a Toughness Infinity.
- Strategy: Saejima's powerful combat style makes short work of most street thugs. Use his charge attacks and Heat Actions for quick victories.
Tanimura's Side Cases
Tanimura's cases often involve his police work, investigating crimes, and dealing with the seedier side of Kamurocho. These can sometimes involve detective work and moral dilemmas.
- The Shady Dealer:
- Location: Nakamichi Street, near the entrance to Millennium Tower.
- Trigger: As Tanimura, you'll spot a suspicious-looking man trying to sell something to passersby.
- Walkthrough:
- Approach the man and observe him. He's selling what appears to be counterfeit goods.
- Confront him. He'll deny any wrongdoing.
- You'll have a dialogue choice: "Arrest him" or "Let him go with a warning."
- Option A: Arrest him: A brief chase sequence will ensue. Catch him, and he'll be arrested. You'll gain 150,000 Yen and Police Reputation Points.
- Option B: Let him go with a warning: He'll thank you and quickly leave. You'll receive 50,000 Yen and a Mystery Item (often a low-tier accessory).
- Strategy: If you choose to arrest him, be prepared for a chase. Master the quick-time events to catch your target efficiently.
Kiryu's Side Cases
Kiryu's cases often involve helping those in distress, dealing with various factions in Kamurocho, and sometimes, a touch of the absurd. His cases frequently highlight his strong sense of justice.
- The Lost Child:
- Location: Shichifuku Street East, near the taxi stand.
- Trigger: As Kiryu, you'll hear a child crying.
- Walkthrough:
- Approach the crying child. He's lost his mother.
- You'll need to find his mother. She's usually located a short distance away, often near a shop or restaurant. Check the area around the child, particularly towards the south on Shichifuku Street or in the nearby park.
- Once you locate the mother (she'll have a speech bubble), speak to her.
- Lead the child to his mother.
- The mother will thank you profusely, and you'll receive 80,000 Yen and a Sacred Tree Branch.
- Strategy: This is a straightforward search. The mother's location is usually not far, but the crowded streets can make her blend in. Keep an eye out for the distinctive speech bubble.
