New Game+ / Premium Adventure

Congratulations on completing Yakuza 4! The journey through Kamurocho doesn't end with the credits. You now have access to two exciting post-game modes: New Game+ and Premium Adventure. Both offer unique ways to revisit the game, pursue completion, and experience the story again with enhanced benefits.

New Game+

New Game+ allows you to restart the main story from the beginning while carrying over a significant portion of your progress from your completed save file. This is the ideal mode for players looking to achieve 100% completion, unlock all abilities, or simply enjoy the narrative again with a powerful advantage.

What Carries Over:

  • Character Levels and Abilities: All four protagonists (Kazuma Kiryu, Taiga Saejima, Shun Akiyama, and Masayoshi Tanimura) retain their experience levels, unlocked abilities, and learned Heat Actions. This makes early game encounters significantly easier.
  • Money: Your accumulated yen carries over, allowing you to purchase expensive items, weapons, and equipment right from the start.
  • Items: Most items in your inventory and storage locker will transfer. This includes recovery items, crafting materials, and key items that aren't story-specific.
  • Equipment: All weapons, armor, and accessories you've acquired will be available from the beginning. This is particularly useful for tackling harder difficulties.
  • Completion List Progress: Your progress on the Completion List (e.g., minigame scores, substory completion, food eaten) will carry over, making it easier to track and finish any remaining objectives.
  • Revelation Progress: Any Revelations you've discovered and learned will remain unlocked.
  • Hostess Maker Progress: If you engaged in the Hostess Maker minigame, your hostesses' progress and unlocked outfits will carry over.
  • Fighter Maker Progress: Saejima's Fighter Maker progress, including fighter stats and unlocked moves, will transfer.

What Does NOT Carry Over:

  • Story Progress: You will start from the very beginning of Part 1, Chapter 1.
  • Substory Status: All substories will reset to their uncompleted state, allowing you to replay them or complete any you missed.
  • Key Items (Story-Specific): Items essential to the main plot will not carry over, as they are acquired naturally during the story progression.
  • Weapon/Armor Modding Progress: While the items themselves carry over, any specific modding progress on weapons or armor might need to be re-initiated or re-applied depending on the item.

Strategies for New Game+:

  1. Difficulty Selection: Consider playing on a harder difficulty (e.g., Hard or EX-Hard) to provide a fresh challenge, especially with your powered-up characters.
  2. Substory Focus: Use New Game+ to meticulously complete all substories. With your enhanced abilities, many substory fights will be trivial, allowing you to focus on the narrative and rewards.
  3. Completion List Cleanup: Target any remaining items on your Completion List. This could involve achieving high scores in minigames like bowling, darts, or mahjong, or finding all the Locker Keys.
  4. Money Management: With your carried-over funds, you can invest early in expensive weapons from Kamiyama Works or purchase all available food items for the "Eat All Food" Completion List entry.
  5. Revelation Hunting: If you missed any Revelations on your first playthrough, use the power of New Game+ to easily navigate Kamurocho and seek out the specific events needed to trigger them.

Premium Adventure

Premium Adventure is a free-roaming mode that takes place after the events of the main story. It allows you to explore Kamurocho with all four protagonists at your leisure, without any story constraints. This is perfect for tying up loose ends, enjoying minigames, and experiencing the city as a whole.

Key Features of Premium Adventure:

  • Open World Exploration: The entire map of Kamurocho is available from the start.
  • Character Switching: You can switch between Kazuma Kiryu, Taiga Saejima, Shun Akiyama, and Masayoshi Tanimura at any time by visiting their respective hideouts (e.g., Kiryu at New Serena, Saejima at the rooftop, Akiyama at Sky Finance, Tanimura at the police station).
  • All Progress Carried Over: Similar to New Game+, all character levels, abilities, money, items, equipment, and Completion List progress are carried over from your completed save file.
  • Substories Available: Any substories you missed or didn't complete in your main playthrough will be available to tackle.
  • Minigames and Activities: All minigames (karaoke, bowling, darts, mahjong, pachinko, etc.) are accessible. This is the ideal mode for grinding out minigame achievements or simply relaxing.
  • Amusements: The Hostess Maker and Fighter Maker minigames are fully accessible. You can continue to develop your hostesses and fighters without story interruptions.
  • Optional Bosses: Some of the toughest optional bosses and challenges become available in Premium Adventure, offering a true test of your skills and gear. Look out for particularly strong encounters in the Coliseum or specific areas of Kamurocho.

Strategies for Premium Adventure:

  1. Substory Completion: Prioritize finishing any remaining substories. Many offer unique rewards, experience, and flesh out the world of Kamurocho.
  2. Completion List Grind: This is the ultimate mode for achieving 100% completion. Systematically go through your Completion List and tick off every remaining item, from eating all food to winning every minigame.
  3. Max Out Characters: If you haven't already, use Premium Adventure to max out the levels and abilities of all four characters. Engage in street fights, complete substories, and utilize training opportunities.
  4. Item and Equipment Farming: Explore every corner of Kamurocho for Locker Keys, hidden items, and powerful equipment. Use your accumulated wealth to purchase the best gear from shops like Don Quijote or Beam.
  5. Challenge the Coliseum: The Coliseum in Purgatory offers some of the toughest fights in the game. Use Premium Adventure to hone your combat skills and earn valuable rewards by conquering all the tournaments.
  6. Enjoy the Atmosphere: simply enjoy the vibrant atmosphere of Kamurocho. Visit your favorite spots, listen to the music, and take in the details you might have missed during your story-driven playthrough.
