Return to Morning Glory
Following the impactful opening cinematic, you'll find yourself back in control of Kazuma Kiryu, freshly released from prison. Your immediate and deeply personal objective is to return to the Morning Glory Orphanage in Okinawa, a place synonymous with family and solace for Kiryu. While this initial segment is heavily narrative-driven, setting the stage for the game's emotional core, there are still opportunities for minor exploration and interaction before reaching your destination.
Initial Steps: Kamurocho Freedom
Upon gaining control, you'll be on the streets of Kamurocho. Although your ultimate goal is Okinawa, take a moment to reacquaint yourself with the city, even if briefly. The game doesn't force you directly to a taxi, allowing for a small window of freedom.
- Explore Your Immediate Surroundings: You'll be near the prison entrance. While most shops and activities are locked or unavailable at this early stage, you can still walk around the immediate block.
- Optional Interactions:
- Vending Machines: Keep an eye out for vending machines. You can purchase basic recovery items like Staminan X or Toughness Z if you have any starting Yen (though it's unlikely you'll need them immediately). These can be useful for later, more challenging encounters.
- Environmental Details: Pay attention to the subtle changes in Kamurocho's atmosphere. The city feels a bit different after Kiryu's time away, a detail the game subtly conveys through its environment.
- Objective Marker: Your mini-map will clearly display a yellow objective marker leading you towards a taxi stand. This is your primary path to Okinawa.
Journey to Okinawa
Once you've had a brief look around Kamurocho, or if you prefer to head straight to your objective, make your way to the designated taxi stand. These are marked with a distinctive taxi icon on your map.
- Locate the Taxi Stand: Follow the yellow objective marker. It's usually a short walk from where you begin.
- Interact with the Taxi: Approach the taxi and press the indicated action button (e.g., 'X' on PlayStation, 'A' on Xbox) to initiate travel.
- Select Destination: A menu will appear, and your only available destination at this point will be "Morning Glory Orphanage, Okinawa." Select this option.
The game will then transition with a brief loading screen or a quick cinematic of Kiryu traveling, transporting you directly to Okinawa.
Arrival at Morning Glory: Narrative Unfolds
Upon your arrival in Okinawa, you'll be immediately thrust into a series of poignant and critical cutscenes. This segment is the narrative cornerstone of the game's opening, establishing the central mystery and Kiryu's renewed purpose.
- Haruka's Disappearance: The most immediate and devastating revelation will be the news of Haruka's disappearance. This sets the primary emotional drive for Kiryu's actions throughout the game.
- Tragic Accident: You will learn about the tragic accident that has befallen Haruka, leading to her critical condition and the shocking discovery of a baby, Haruto.
- Emotional Impact: Allow yourself to be immersed in these scenes. They are expertly crafted to convey Kiryu's grief, confusion, and unwavering determination to protect his family.
- Key NPCs: You'll be reunited with familiar faces from the orphanage, such as Yuta and the other children, who will provide crucial information and emotional support.
During these cutscenes, your direct control will be minimal, limited to occasional dialogue choices that don't significantly alter the immediate narrative but allow you to express Kiryu's feelings. Focus on absorbing the story, as it lays the groundwork for every subsequent mission and character interaction in Yakuza 6: The Song of Life.
