Boss Strategies
Welcome, Dragon of Dojima, to the ultimate guide for conquering the toughest foes in Yakuza Kiwami 2. This section provides detailed, actionable strategies to help you overcome every major boss encounter, ensuring your path to victory is as smooth as Kiryu's punch.
General Boss Combat Tips
- Stock Up on Healing Items: Before any major boss fight, always visit a Poppo or M Store. Prioritize items like the Staminan Royale (restores a large amount of health and Heat) and Toughness Infinity (fully restores health and Heat). Keep at least 3-5 of each on hand.
- Utilize Heat Actions: Heat Actions are your most potent weapon. Build up your Heat Gauge by landing combos and dodging attacks. Look for environmental Heat Actions (e.g., slamming an enemy into a wall, using a bicycle) for massive damage.
- Learn Enemy Patterns: Every boss has distinct attack patterns. Observe their wind-ups, dodges, and tells. Patience is key; don't rush in blindly.
- Weaponize Your Environment: Many boss arenas have objects you can pick up and use as weapons. Chairs, signs, and even motorcycles can turn the tide of battle. Remember to use the Weapon Master ability if you've unlocked it for increased damage.
- Upgrade Your Abilities: Invest your experience points wisely. Prioritize upgrades for your health, attack power, and Heat Gauge. The Dragon of Dojima style benefits greatly from upgrades to its core techniques.
Ryuji Goda (First Encounter - Chapter 5)
Your initial clash with the Dragon of Kansai is a test of your fundamental combat skills. This fight takes place in the Sotenbori Grand.
- Phase 1: Standard Attacks
- Goda's attacks are powerful but relatively slow. Focus on dodging his heavy swings and then counter-attacking with quick combos.
- He often uses a three-hit combo. Block the first two, then quickstep to his side or behind to punish his recovery.
- Recommended Items: Keep a Toughness Light or two ready for minor health top-ups.
- Phase 2: Heat Actions & Environment
- Once his health drops, Goda will become more aggressive and use more charged attacks.
- Look for opportunities to use environmental Heat Actions. The arena has various objects like chairs and tables. Grab them with R1 (PS4) and unleash a powerful attack.
- When your Heat Gauge is full, use the Essence of Extreme Dragon Heat Action for significant damage.
- Key Strategy: Maintain distance, bait his attacks, and counter. Don't get greedy with your combos; land a few hits and then prepare to dodge.
Joji Kazama (Chapter 8)
This encounter in the Tojo Clan Headquarters is less about brute force and more about precision and timing. Kazama is agile and uses quick, precise strikes.
- Phase 1: Dodging and Punishing
- Kazama's attacks are fast and hard to block effectively. Your primary defense should be dodging.
- He has a quick jab combo and a powerful kick. Dodge sideways or backwards to avoid them.
- After he finishes a combo, there's a brief opening. Use a quick 3-4 hit combo before he recovers.
- Recommended Items: Staminan X for quick Heat gain to set up Heat Actions.
- Phase 2: Countering Heat Attacks
- As his health depletes, Kazama will frequently enter a Heat state, making his attacks even faster and more damaging.
- When he glows, be extra cautious. Try to bait out his special attacks, then dodge and use a quick Heat Action if available.
- The Essence of Re-Guard (if unlocked) can be useful here to parry his attacks and create openings.
- Key Strategy: Focus on evasion. Don't try to trade blows with him. Wait for openings after his combos and punish.
Daisaku Kuze (Majima Saga - Chapter 3)
Majima's final showdown with Kuze in the Empty Lot is a classic brawl. Kuze is a relentless brawler who hits hard and often.
- Phase 1: Aggressive Offense
- Kuze is less about finesse and more about overwhelming you. Use Majima's Thug Style for its quick attacks and evasive dodges.
- Land quick combos, then use the quickstep to get behind him and continue the assault.
- Be wary of his charging punch; it can break your guard.
- Recommended Items: Toughness Emperor for substantial healing.
- Phase 2: Weapon Use and Heat Actions
- Kuze will often pick up environmental weapons like pipes or planks. If he does, try to disarm him with a grab or a well-timed Heat Action.
- The arena has several objects you can use as weapons yourself. Grab a nearby sign or bicycle and unleash a Weapon Heat Action.
- Majima's Essence of Mad Dog Heat Action is incredibly effective when his health is low.
- Key Strategy: Stay aggressive but don't overcommit. Use Majima's speed to your advantage, constantly moving and striking.
Ryuji Goda (Final Encounter - Chapter 16)
The ultimate confrontation with Ryuji Goda at the Millennium Tower is a multi-phase endurance battle. Come prepared with a full inventory of healing items and a high Heat Gauge.
- Phase 1: Sword Combat
- Goda wields a katana. His attacks are fast and have good reach. Blocking is risky as he can break your guard.
- Focus on dodging his sword swings and then counter-attacking. He often leaves himself open after a heavy overhead strike.
- If you have the Essence of the Dragon God (unlocked by completing all Komaki training), it's incredibly useful for parrying his sword attacks.
- Recommended Items: Staminan Royale and Toughness Infinity are essential.
- Phase 2: Bare-Handed Brawl
- After taking significant damage, Goda will drop his sword and revert to his powerful bare-handed style.
- His attacks are similar to your first encounter but much more damaging and faster.
- He will frequently use powerful charge attacks. These are excellent opportunities for a well-timed dodge and a counter Heat Action.
- Look for environmental objects like the large pillars or debris in the arena for powerful Heat Actions.
- Phase 3: Extreme Heat & QTEs
- In his final phase, Goda will enter an "Extreme Heat" state, making him incredibly dangerous.
- He will unleash a flurry of unblockable attacks. Your only option is to dodge and wait for specific openings.
- This phase will also feature several Quick Time Events (QTEs). Be ready to press the correct buttons rapidly to avoid massive damage and land your own critical hits. Failing these can be devastating.
- Key Strategy: This is a war of attrition. Don't be afraid to use your best healing items. Focus on survival, landing hits when safe, and executing QTEs perfectly.
