New Game Plus
Congratulations, Dragon of Dojima! You've navigated the treacherous waters of the Tojo Clan and the Omi Alliance, and likely completed a significant portion of the game's myriad side activities. Now, it's time to embark on a fresh journey through Kamurocho and Sotenbori with the power of New Game Plus (NG+).
Starting New Game Plus
After completing the main story of Yakuza Kiwami 2, you'll be prompted to create a Clear Save Data file. save this file! From the main menu, select "New Game" and then choose your Clear Save Data. This will initiate a New Game Plus playthrough.
What Carries Over?
New Game Plus is designed to make subsequent playthroughs more enjoyable and allow you to focus on elements you might have missed. Here's a detailed breakdown of what transfers:
- Experience and Skills: Kiryu's current level, all acquired skills, and accumulated experience points (EXP) will carry over. This means you'll start the game as a formidable force, able to decimate early-game thugs with ease.
- Money: Your entire cash reserves will transfer. This is incredibly useful for immediately investing in equipment, food, or property.
- Items and Equipment: All items in your inventory, including healing items, crafting materials, and most importantly, your entire arsenal of weapons and gear, will be available from the start. This includes powerful weapons like the Dragon God Katana or the Photon Blade RG if you've acquired them.
- Completion List Progress: Your progress on the Completion List (e.g., minigame scores, substory completion, food consumption) will carry over. This is crucial for achieving 100% completion without having to redo everything.
- Substory Progress: Any substories you've completed will remain completed. You won't need to re-do them, allowing you to focus on any you might have missed.
- Clan Creator Progress: Your Clan Creator team, including all recruited members and their levels, will transfer. This makes subsequent Clan Creator runs much easier, especially if you're aiming for higher ranks or specific rewards.
- Cabaret Club Grand Prix Progress: Your Cabaret Club progress, including your hostesses' levels and your club's rank, will carry over. This allows you to quickly dominate the Cabaret Grand Prix in subsequent playthroughs.
- Weapon Crafting & Modding: Any blueprints you've discovered and upgrades you've made at the Weapon Workshop will be available.
- Food & Drink Discoveries: All food and drink items you've consumed for the Completion List will remain checked off.
What Doesn't Carry Over?
- Story Progress: The main story will reset, allowing you to experience the narrative again from the beginning.
- Key Items (Story-Related): Any key items specifically tied to main story progression will be removed from your inventory.
- Friendship Levels: Friendship levels with various NPCs will reset, requiring you to re-establish those bonds.
- Lockers: The contents of lockers will reset, so retrieve anything important before starting NG+.
Strategies for New Game Plus
Early Game Domination
With your carried-over skills and equipment, the early chapters of Kiwami 2 become a cakewalk. This is an excellent opportunity to:
- Farm Money: Use your powerful abilities to quickly clear street fights and earn easy cash. This can be invested in expensive food items for stat boosts, or to purchase rare items from shops.
- Focus on Missed Substories: If you missed any substories in your first playthrough, NG+ is the perfect time to track them down without the pressure of the main narrative. Consult a substory guide to efficiently locate and complete them.
- Max Out Stats: With easy access to money, you can buy high-quality food and drinks from restaurants and bars to quickly max out Kiryu's various stats (Health, Attack, Defense, Heat). Consider visiting places like Smile Burger for quick health boosts or Stardust for several stat-boosting drinks.
Completionist Run
New Game Plus is almost essential for achieving 100% completion. Here's how to leverage it:
- Completion List Cleanup: Go through your Completion List and identify any remaining tasks. These might include specific minigame challenges (e.g., winning all tournaments in the Coliseum, achieving high scores in Virtual On or Toylets), collecting all Locker Keys, or completing all weapon crafting recipes.
- Legend Difficulty: If you're aiming for the Platinum Trophy or a true challenge, consider starting your NG+ on Legend difficulty. Your carried-over stats and equipment will provide a much-needed advantage against the significantly tougher enemies. Be prepared for increased damage taken and more aggressive enemy AI.
- Secret Bosses: If you haven't already, use your powered-up Kiryu to take on the game's secret bosses, such as the Amons. These fights are incredibly challenging and often require fully upgraded skills and top-tier equipment.
Experimentation and Fun
simply enjoy the game! NG+ allows you to:
- Try New Playstyles: Experiment with different weapon types or Heat Actions you might not have used before.
- Revisit Favorite Moments: Relive key story beats or substories with the added satisfaction of being an unstoppable force.
- Collect All Trophies/Achievements: Many trophies are tied to specific completion tasks or difficulty settings, making NG+ invaluable for unlocking them all.
Embrace the power of New Game Plus and continue your legend as the Dragon of Dojima!
