Jobs (Character Class)
In Yakuza: Like a Dragon, Jobs are character classes that define a party member's combat style, skills, and stats. Mastering different jobs is essential for building a powerful and versatile team capable of overcoming any challenge.
Ichiban Kasuga and his companions can switch between various Jobs, each offering a unique set of active and passive skills, stat distributions, and elemental affinities. Changing Jobs allows for deep customization and strategic adaptation to different enemy types and combat scenarios. Unlocking and leveling up Jobs is a core progression system that sificantly impacts your party's effectiveness.
How to Change Jobs:
Job changes can be performed at the "Hero's Bat" in the Romance Workshop. You'll need to reach a certain point in the story to unlock this feature. Initially, only a few basic jobs will be available, but more will be unlocked as you progress and complete specific requirements.
Job Tiers and Requirements:
Jobs are generally divided into tiers, with higher-tier jobs offering more powerful skills and better stats. To unlock a new job, a character typically needs to:
- Reach a certain level in their current job.
- Meet specific stat requirements (e.g., have a certain level of Kindness or Bravery).
- Complete associated substories or story events.
- Pay a fee in money and/or specific crafting materials.
Types of Jobs:
Jobs are broadly categorized into:
- Male Character Jobs: These are jobs available to male party members, often focusing on physical prowess, charm, or specialized roles like the Host or Dealer.
- Female Character Jobs: These jobs are exclusive to female party members and tend to emphasize magic, support, or unique combat styles like the Idol or Fortune Teller.
- Unique Jobs: Some jobs are tied to specific characters and reflect their individual backgrounds and abilities, such as the Detective or Chef.
Key Jobs and Their Roles:
| Job Name | Primary Role | Key Strengths | Available To |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hero | All-rounder | Balanced stats, versatile skills | Ichiban |
| Yakuza | Physical Attacker | High Strength, powerful melee | Male Characters |
| Idol | Healer/Support | MP restoration, healing, buffs | Female Characters |
| Chef | Magic Attacker/Debuffer | Elemental magic, status effects | Male Characters |
| Fortune Teller | Magic Attacker/Support | Powerful magic, buffs/debuffs | Female Characters |
Job Leveling and Skills:
As you use a job in combat, its level will increase, unlocking new active and passive skills. Passive skills provide permanent stat boosts or beneficial effects, while active skills are special attacks or abilities that consume MP. It's often beneficial to level up multiple jobs on a character to inherit useful passive skills from one job to another.
Strategic Job Switching:
The ability to switch jobs is crucial for adapting to different enemy encounters. For example, if you're facing a boss with strong physical defenses, you might switch to a magic-focused job. If you need more healing, an Idol is invaluable. Experiment with different job combinations to find the most effective party setup for your playstyle.
