Equipment Upgrades — Yakuza: Like a Dragon Guide

Keeping your party equipped with the best gear is paramount to success in Yakuza: Like a Dragon. Equipment upgrades not only boost your characters' stats but can also grant them resistances to various ailments and elemental damage, making challenging encounters sificantly more manageable. This guide will walk you through the essential methods of enhancing your arsenal.

The primary way to upgrade your equipment is through the Pawn Shop. There are several Pawn Shops located throughout Ijincho, with the most prominent one being in the Commercial District. At the Pawn Shop, you can purchase new weapons and armor, and more importantly, upgrade existing ones.

Weapon and Armor Upgrades:

To upgrade a piece of equipment, you'll need two things: the item you want to upgrade and the necessary materials. The materials are often found by dismantling unwanted gear at the Pawn Shop, purchasing them directly, or finding them as rewards from battles, substories, or dungeons.

The upgrade process typically involves a series of tiers. For example, a weapon might have 5 upgrade levels. Each level requires specific materials and a certain amount of money. As you upgrade, the item's base stats (Attack, Defense, etc.) will increase. Some high-tier upgrades might also unlock or enhance special properties, such as increased critical hit chance or resistance to specific status effects.

Dismantling Gear:

Don't hoard every piece of equipment you find. Many items, especially common ones, can be dismantled at the Pawn Shop to yield valuable crafting materials. This is an excellent way to acquire the resources needed for upgrades. Prioritize dismantling gear that you have duplicates of or that is sificantly weaker than your current equipment.

Finding New Equipment:

While upgrades are crucial, don't neglect finding new, more powerful gear. These can be purchased from shops, found in treasure chests, obtained as quest rewards, or dropped by enemies. Always check the stats of new items and consider if they are an improvement over your current loadout, or if they offer unique benefits that complement your party's roles.

Job-Specific Gear:

Remember that certain jobs have exclusive equipment slots or benefit more from specific types of gear. For instance, a magic-focused job might benefit more from items that boost MP or magic attack, while a tank job would prioritize defense and HP.

Key Locations for Gear:

  • Pawn Shops: For purchasing and upgrading weapons and armor.
  • Specialty Shops: Various shops in Ijincho sell unique items, including powerful accessories.
  • Dungeons: The toughest dungeons often contain the best loot.
  • Substory Rewards: Many substories offer valuable equipment as a reward.

Regularly visiting the Pawn Shop and investing in your party's equipment will sificantly improve your survivability and offensive power, allowing you to tackle the game's most challenging content with confidence.
