Basic Controls & Navigation
Yakuza: Like a Dragon marks a sificant shift with its turn-based JRPG mechanics, but the core exploration and interaction controls remain familiar to fans of the series. Mastering these basics is essential for navigating the bustling streets of Yokohama, interacting with the environment, and engaging with the game's many activities. Whether you're walking, running, or interacting, understanding the controls ensures a smooth experience.
Movement in Yakuza: Like a Dragon is primarily handled with the left analog stick. Pushing the stick gently allows Ichiban Kasuga to walk, while pushing it further makes him run. This allows for controlled exploration of the environment. The right analog stick is used to control the camera, letting you pan around Ichiban and get a better view of your surroundings. This is crucial for spotting hidden items or observing enemy positions.
Key controls for exploration and interaction include:
- Movement: Left Analog Stick (Walk/Run)
- Camera Control: Right Analog Stick
- Interact: 'X' button (PlayStation) / 'A' button (Xbox). This button is context-sensitive and used for talking to NPCs, picking up items, opening doors, initiating substories, and interacting with various environmental objects.
- Dash/Sprint: Hold 'R1' (PlayStation) / 'RB' (Xbox) while moving to sprint. This consumes stamina but covers ground much faster.
- Map: Press the 'Touchpad' (PlayStation) / 'View' button (Xbox) to bring up the world map. This is vital for navigation, showing quest markers, points of interest, and fast travel locations.
- Pause Menu/Inventory: Press the 'Options' button (PlayStation) / 'Menu' button (Xbox) to access the main menu, where you can manage your party, check equipment, use items, and view your progress.
Navigation is further aided by the mini-map displayed in the corner of the screen during gameplay. This map shows your immediate surroundings, nearby NPCs, enemy locations (indicated by red dots), and quest objectives. Following the directional prompts and quest markers on the mini-map will guide you through the story and substories.
Remember to utilize the 'Interact' button frequently, as it's your primary tool for engaging with the world. From accepting quests to examining clues, the 'X'/'A' button is your key to unlocking the many secrets and opportunities within Yokohama.
