Walkthrough and Collectible Locations

Begin your adventure by heading right from the start. You'll immediately encounter your first Knot-Wing Koopas. Practice swallowing them to create yarn balls – you'll need a good supply! Remember, each Knot-Wing Koopa provides one yarn ball when swallowed.

  1. Initial Platforming & First Smiley Flower:
    • Proceed right past the first few enemies. You'll come to a series of moving platforms.
    • Smiley Flower #1: Above the second set of moving platforms, keep an eye out for a visible cloud. Jump and hit this cloud with your tongue or a yarn ball to reveal the first Smiley Flower. Collect it before it disappears.
    • Continue right, navigating the platforms and collecting beads. There are approximately 20-30 beads in this initial section.
  2. Underground Section & Hidden Cloud:
    • After the moving platforms, you'll drop down into a small underground-like section.
    • Stamp Patches (1-5): Collect the beads scattered here. There's a hidden cloud to the left of the entrance to this section; hit it for more beads. Aim for all the beads in this area, which should total around 50-60 beads, contributing to your first few Stamp Patches.
    • Wonder Wool #1: As you exit this lower area, look for a hidden cloud directly above the exit pipe. It's slightly to the right of the pipe's opening. Hit it to reveal the first Wonder Wool.
  3. Waterfall Area & Second Smiley Flower:
    • You'll emerge near a small waterfall.
    • Smiley Flower #2: To the right of the waterfall, just before the next solid ground, there's a hidden cloud. Jump and flutter to reach it, then hit it to reveal the second Smiley Flower. grab it quickly.
    • Continue right, dealing with any Knot-Wing Koopas in your path. Keep your yarn ball count high.
  4. Mid-Level Checkpoint & Yarn Ball Platforming:
    • You'll soon reach the first checkpoint flag. Activate it by running into it.
    • Just past the checkpoint, you'll enter an area requiring yarn balls to create platforms. Look up! You'll see outlines of platforms.
    • Wonder Wool #2: In this yarn-platforming section, you'll see a gap in the ceiling. Throw a yarn ball upwards to create a platform, then jump to reach a hidden area above. The second Wonder Wool is located here, often surrounded by a few beads.
    • Stamp Patches (6-10): Collect the numerous beads as you create your path upwards and across. There are many beads here, easily enough to earn several Stamp Patches. Aim for all visible beads and any revealed by hitting clouds. You should accumulate around 100-120 beads by the end of this section.
  5. Third Smiley Flower & Hidden Door:
    • After the yarn-platforming section, you'll drop down to a solid path.
    • Smiley Flower #3: Look for a visible cloud floating high above the path, slightly to the right of where you land. Use a flutter jump or a well-aimed yarn ball to hit it and collect the third Smiley Flower. It's positioned quite high, so a good jump or precise throw is needed.
    • Hidden Door: Just past where you found Smiley Flower #3, there's a small alcove in the wall on the ground level. Ground pound the ground directly in front of this alcove to reveal a hidden door. Enter it.
    • Bonus Room: This room contains a plethora of beads and a few Knot-Wing Koopas. Collect all the beads (approximately 50-70 beads) for more Stamp Patches. You can also swallow the Koopas for more yarn. Exit the room to return to the main path.
  6. Large Koopa Troopa & Fourth Smiley Flower:
    • Further right, you'll encounter a large Koopa Troopa.
    • Smiley Flower #4: Defeat the large Koopa Troopa (by ground pounding it or throwing a yarn ball) or simply jump over it. To the right of where it stood, there's a high platform. Use the large Koopa Troopa's shell (if you defeated it and pushed it to the right) or a flutter jump from the ground to reach this platform. The fourth Smiley Flower is waiting there.
    • Wonder Wool #3: Immediately to the right of the platform where you found Smiley Flower #4, you'll see a visible cloud floating slightly above the ground. Hit it to reveal the third Wonder Wool.
  7. Second Checkpoint & Moving Platforms:
    • You'll reach the second checkpoint flag. Activate it.
    • Beyond the checkpoint, you'll face more moving platforms and Knot-Wing Koopas.
    • Stamp Patches (11-15): Collect beads as you navigate this section. There are numerous beads both on the platforms and in the air between them. Aim to collect at least 50-70 beads here.
  8. Fifth Smiley Flower & Hidden Pipe:
    • As you near the end of the level, before the final goal post, you'll see a series of platforms leading upwards.
    • Smiley Flower #5: On the highest platform in this section, look for a visible cloud. It's positioned directly above the peak of the upward-sloping platforms. Hit it to reveal the fifth and final Smiley Flower.
    • Hidden Pipe: After collecting the last Smiley Flower, look to the left of the highest platform. There's a hidden pipe tucked away in the wall, partially obscured. Jump towards the wall to reveal its entrance. Enter it.
    • Bonus Room: This secret room is a treasure trove! It contains a large number of beads (easily 80-100 beads), leading to your final Stamp Patches, and crucially, the last two Wonder Wools.
    • Wonder Wool #4 & #5: Both the fourth and fifth Wonder Wools are found within this hidden bonus room. One is typically floating in the air, and the other might be revealed by hitting a hidden cloud within the room. Collect them along with all the beads. This room is essential for 100% completion.
  9. Goal Post:
    • Exit the hidden pipe and proceed to the right to reach the goal post. Jump on it to complete the level!

Tips for Success

  • Yarn Ball Management: Always try to have a full stock of yarn balls (five) by swallowing enemies. This is essential for hitting distant targets, revealing hidden items, and creating platforms. Don't be afraid to swallow and spit out enemies to get more yarn.
  • Flutter Jump: Don't forget Yoshi's versatile flutter jump. It can help you reach higher platforms, extend your jumps, and recover from near-falls. It's also vital for reaching some of the higher visible clouds.
  • Look Everywhere: Many collectibles are hidden in plain sight, disguised as part of the background, or revealed by hitting invisible clouds. Keep an eye on suspicious areas, especially walls, ceilings, and isolated platforms. If a section feels empty, there's likely a hidden cloud or path.
  • Aiming Precision: For distant clouds or targets, use the aiming reticle (hold the throw button) to ensure your yarn ball hits its mark. This is particularly useful for clouds that are high up or far across gaps.
  • Revisit if Necessary: If you miss a collectible, especially a Wonder Wool or Smiley Flower, it's often quicker to intentionally lose a life (if you've hit a recent checkpoint) or restart the level to ensure you get everything.
  • Ground Pound for Secrets: Remember that ground pounding can reveal hidden doors or items, as demonstrated with the hidden room after Smiley Flower #3. Always try a ground pound in suspicious-looking alcoves or empty spaces.

By following this comprehensive guide, you should have no trouble collecting all the items in 1-3: Knot-Wing the Koopa and achieving a perfect score!
