World 1-3: Sponge Cave Spelunking

Welcome to Sponge Cave Spelunking! This level introduces spongy platforms that react to your weight and projectiles. Mastering their bouncy nature is key to finding all the collectibles.

Initial Cavern & First Collectibles

Begin by heading right. You'll immediately encounter a few Shy Guys. Deal with them to clear your path.
Flower #1: Just past the first few Shy Guys, you'll see a small alcove above. Jump up or use a well-aimed egg to reveal the first Wonder Wool.
Continue right. You'll come across a large, bouncy sponge platform. Use it to reach the higher ledge.
Stamp Patch #1: On the higher ledge after the first large sponge, look for a hidden cloud. Jump and flutter to hit it, revealing the first Stamp Patch.

The Sponge Gauntlet

This next section features a series of sponge platforms. Timing your jumps is crucial here.

As you proceed, you'll see a line of coins leading upwards. Use the sponges to bounce high and collect them all.
Wonder Wool #1: After the coin trail, you'll land on another sponge. Look to your left and slightly up. There's a hidden cloud containing the first Wonder Wool. You might need to bounce off the sponge and flutter to reach it.
Keep moving right, navigating the various sponge platforms. Some will sink under your weight, while others will propel you upwards.
Flower #2: You'll reach a point with a tall stack of sponges. Climb to the very top. The second Wonder Wool is waiting for you there.

Underground Passage & Hidden Paths

This part of the cave has some tricky hidden areas.

After the tall sponge stack, drop down into the next area. You'll see a Piranha Plant. Defeat it or avoid it.
Wonder Wool #2: To the right of the Piranha Plant, there's a seemingly solid wall. Ground pound near it or throw an egg to reveal a hidden passage. Follow this passage to find the second Wonder Wool.
Exit the hidden passage and continue right. You'll encounter more Shy Guys and a few more sponge platforms.
Stamp Patch #2: As you cross a series of smaller sponges, look for a suspicious-looking wall above. Throw an egg at it to reveal a hidden cloud containing the second Stamp Patch.

Mid-Level Checkpoint & Beyond

You'll soon reach the mid-level checkpoint. Take a breather and stock up on eggs if needed.

Checkpoint: Hit the checkpoint flag to save your progress.
Just past the checkpoint, you'll see a large sponge platform with a few enemies. Clear them out.
Flower #3: Above this large sponge, there's a hidden cloud. Bounce high and flutter to hit it, revealing the third Wonder Wool.
Continue right. You'll encounter some Bouncers, enemies that also use the sponge physics. Time your attacks carefully.
Wonder Wool #3: After dealing with the Bouncers, you'll see a small gap in the ceiling. Use a nearby sponge to bounce up and through the gap. The third Wonder Wool is located in this secret alcove.

Final Stretch & End of Level

The last section of the level will test your platforming skills with more intricate sponge arrangements.

As you approach the end, you'll see a series of moving sponge platforms. Carefully time your jumps to avoid falling into the abyss below.
Stamp Patch #3: During the moving sponge section, look for a platform that moves particularly high. At its peak, you can jump and flutter to a small, hidden ledge on the left, where the final Stamp Patch awaits.
Wonder Wool #4: Near the end, you'll see a large, vertical sponge wall. Throw an egg at its base to reveal a hidden passage. Enter it to find the fourth Wonder Wool.
After collecting the last Wonder Wool, continue to the right, navigating the final few sponge platforms.
Goal Ring: Jump through the Goal Ring to complete World 1-3: Sponge Cave Spelunking!
