2-2: Lava Land

Welcome to Lava Land, a fiery challenge brimming with molten hazards and fire-breathing foes! This level demands precise platforming and careful timing to navigate its treacherous landscape. Your primary objective is to avoid the scorching lava at all costs, as a single touch will send Yoshi back to the last checkpoint. We'll guide you through each section, detailing every collectible and offering strategies to conquer the heat.

Level Overview & General Tips

  • Environmental Hazard: The most prominent danger is the omnipresent lava. It rises, falls, and often forms geysers. Always observe its patterns before making a move.
  • Enemy Focus: Expect to encounter numerous Hot Heads (fire-breathing Piranha Plants), Lava Bubbles (fireballs that jump out of lava), and Blarggs (large, lava-dwelling creatures that leap out to surprise you).
  • Yarn Ball Utility: Yarn balls are crucial for defeating enemies, revealing hidden paths, and creating temporary platforms over lava. Keep a good stock!
  • Power Badge Recommendation: If you're struggling with the lava, consider equipping the "Immunity to Lava" Power Badge. This will allow you to walk on lava without taking damage, making collectible hunting significantly easier.
  • Hidden Paths: Always be on the lookout for suspicious-looking walls or ceilings. Many secrets in Yoshi's Woolly World are revealed by throwing a yarn ball at a specific spot.

Walkthrough & Collectibles

Section 1: The Initial Ascent

The level begins with a straightforward path. You'll immediately encounter rising and falling lava. Time your jumps carefully across the initial platforms.

  • Smiley Flower #1: After the first set of rising and falling lava platforms, you'll reach a slightly wider platform. Look directly above this platform; the first Smiley Flower is floating high in the air. You'll need a well-timed, full-power flutter jump to reach it. Alternatively, if you have the "Immunity to Lava" badge, you can simply walk into the lava below and jump up to grab it.
  • Wonder Wool #1: Continue past the first Smiley Flower. You'll soon encounter a series of Hot Heads spitting fire across your path. Just after the second Hot Head, you'll see a small, elevated platform. Jump onto it and then perform a flutter jump upwards to reveal a hidden cloud. Hit this cloud with a yarn ball to reveal Wonder Wool #1.
  • Stamp Patch #1: After collecting Wonder Wool #1, proceed a short distance. You'll see a small, elevated platform with a single coin on it. Stand on this platform and throw a yarn ball directly upwards at the ceiling. A hidden cloud will appear, revealing Stamp Patch #1.
Section 2: Lava Geysers and Hidden Paths

This area introduces more dynamic lava hazards, including unpredictable geysers and platforms that sink into the molten rock.

  • Smiley Flower #2: After navigating the platforms with the Hot Heads, you'll come to a large gap with several lava geysers erupting from below. The second Smiley Flower is located on a small, stable platform situated directly above the second lava geyser in this sequence. Wait for the geyser to recede, then quickly flutter jump across to grab the flower before the next eruption. This requires precise timing to avoid the geyser and the lava below.
  • Wonder Wool #2: Proceed past the geyser section. You'll reach a point where you need to use yarn balls to create temporary platforms over a wide lava pool. Before crossing, look for a suspicious-looking, slightly discolored patch of wall on the left side of the screen, just before the lava pool begins. Unravel this section of the wall with a yarn ball to reveal a hidden alcove containing Wonder Wool #2.
  • Stamp Patch #2: After revealing the hidden alcove for Wonder Wool #2, but before entering it, look directly above the entrance to that alcove. There's a hidden cloud floating just out of reach. Jump and flutter to hit it, or throw a yarn ball, to reveal Stamp Patch #2.
Section 3: The Blargg Gauntlet

Prepare for encounters with the fearsome Blarggs in this section. These creatures will leap out of the lava to surprise you, so stay alert!

  • Smiley Flower #3: As you progress through the Blargg-infested area, you'll reach a point where the path forks slightly, with a higher ledge and a lower path. Take the lower path, but be wary of a Blargg that will jump out. Just after this Blargg, look for a small, safe alcove carved into the wall on the right. The third Smiley Flower is tucked away inside this alcove. You'll need to quickly duck in and out to avoid the lava.
  • Wonder Wool #3: Immediately after collecting Smiley Flower #3, continue along the lower path. You'll see a series of small, sinking platforms over the lava. Instead of immediately jumping across, look upwards and to the right. There's a hidden cloud floating high above the first sinking platform. Hit it with a yarn ball to make Wonder Wool #3 appear on the platform below.
  • Stamp Patch #3: After collecting Wonder Wool #3, continue across the sinking platforms. Just before the next solid ground, there will be a final sinking platform. Look directly above this platform; a hidden cloud containing Stamp Patch #3 is floating there. Hit it with a yarn ball.
Section 4: Moving Platforms and Final Stretch

The final section features more complex platforming challenges, including platforms that move horizontally and vertically over vast lava pits.

  • Smiley Flower #4: You'll encounter a long stretch with several moving platforms that travel across a large lava lake. Keep an eye out for a small, stationary platform positioned slightly below the main path, halfway across this section. The fourth Smiley Flower is resting on this lower platform. You'll need to drop down from a moving platform to grab it, then quickly flutter jump back up to the next moving platform.
  • Wonder Wool #4: After navigating the moving platforms, you'll reach a solid ground section with a couple of Lava Bubbles jumping out of the lava. Look for a vertical stack of breakable blocks on the right side of this area. Destroy these blocks with yarn balls to reveal a hidden pipe. Enter the pipe to find a secret room containing Wonder Wool #4.
  • Stamp Patch #4: Inside the secret room accessed via the pipe for Wonder Wool #4, after collecting the Wonder Wool, look at the ceiling. There's a hidden cloud directly above the pipe entrance. Jump and flutter or throw a yarn ball to reveal Stamp Patch #4.
Section 5: The Goal Post

You're almost there! Just a few more obstacles stand between you and the goal.

  • Smiley Flower #5: Before reaching the final goal post, you'll see a large, rotating platform with a few coins on it. The fifth and final Smiley Flower is located directly above the center of this rotating platform. Time your jump carefully as the platform rotates to grab the flower without falling into the lava below.
  • Wonder Wool #5: The final Wonder Wool is cleverly hidden near the very end of the level. Just before the goal post, look for a small, seemingly inaccessible ledge high above the path. There's a hidden cloud floating directly above this ledge. Throw a yarn ball at it to reveal Wonder Wool #5, which will drop onto the ledge. You'll need to use a well-aimed flutter jump from the main path to reach the ledge and collect it.
  • Stamp Patch #5: After collecting Wonder Wool #5, proceed to the area directly in front of the goal post. Before jumping onto the goal post itself, look at the very top of the screen, above the goal post banner. There's a final hidden cloud containing Stamp Patch #5. A high flutter jump or a well-aimed yarn ball will reveal it.

With all collectibles gathered and the lava successfully avoided, you've conquered Lava Land! Proceed to the goal post to complete the level and unlock the next challenge.
