World 4-2: Lakitu Peekaboo
Welcome to Lakitu Peekaboo, a level that lives up to its name with plenty of hidden surprises and mischievous Lakitus! This stage introduces some tricky platforming and requires keen observation to uncover all its secrets. Get ready to bounce on clouds and dodge Spiny Eggs!
Collectibles Checklist:
- 5 Wonder Wools
- 20 Stamp Patches
- 5 Flowers
Walkthrough:
Begin your journey by heading right. You'll immediately encounter a Lakitu. These guys will hover above, dropping Spiny Eggs. You can swallow the Lakitu to get a yarn ball, or simply eat the Spiny Eggs for ammunition. Remember, a well-aimed yarn ball can take out a Lakitu!
-
First Section - Cloud Platforms & Hidden Paths:
- Move right past the first Lakitu. You'll see a series of cloud platforms.
- Wonder Wool #1: Just after the first few clouds, look for a small, hidden cloud platform below the main path. Ground pound it to reveal a hidden alcove containing the first Wonder Wool.
- Continue right, navigating the moving cloud platforms. Be careful not to fall into the abyss below.
- Flower #1: As you progress, you'll spot a visible Flower floating above a gap between two cloud platforms. Use a flutter jump to reach it.
- You'll encounter more Lakitus here. Use their Spiny Eggs or your own yarn balls to clear them out.
- Stamp Patch #1-5: Keep an eye out for invisible clouds that reveal Stamp Patches when you jump on them. The first set of five is usually found by jumping around the first large cloud platform after the initial Lakitu.
-
Mid-Level Checkpoint & Underground Passage:
- Reach the first Checkpoint Flag. Ground pound the nearby arrow cloud to reveal a hidden door.
- Enter the door to find an underground section.
- Wonder Wool #2: In this underground area, you'll find a Piranha Plant. Defeat it or avoid it, and then look for a small, breakable block wall to your left. Ground pound it to reveal a hidden passage with Wonder Wool #2.
- Stamp Patch #6-10: While in the underground area, bounce on the spring-like enemies to reach higher platforms. You'll find another set of Stamp Patches by jumping on invisible clouds.
- Exit the underground area through the pipe on the right.
-
Floating Islands & Wind Currents:
- Back outside, you'll be on a series of floating islands with wind currents. These currents will push you, so time your jumps carefully.
- Flower #2: As you navigate the wind currents, you'll see a Flower high above a gap. Use the wind to your advantage to flutter jump and grab it.
- Wonder Wool #3: After the second wind current section, you'll land on a larger island. Look for a hidden cloud above you (jump to reveal it) that leads to a small alcove with Wonder Wool #3.
- Stamp Patch #11-15: Another cluster of invisible clouds with Stamp Patches can be found around the larger floating islands.
-
Final Stretch - Lakitu Gauntlet:
- The final section of the level features a gauntlet of Lakitus. They will be dropping Spiny Eggs frequently.
- Flower #3: Near the end of this gauntlet, you'll see a Flower suspended between two Lakitus. Carefully time your approach to grab it without getting hit.
- Wonder Wool #4: Just before the final pipe, there's a large cloud platform. Ground pound the center of it to reveal a hidden area below with Wonder Wool #4.
- Stamp Patch #16-20: The last set of Stamp Patches is usually found by jumping on invisible clouds directly above the final Lakitu gauntlet.
- Enter the final pipe.
-
Goal Ring:
- You'll emerge near the Goal Ring.
- Wonder Wool #5 & Flower #4 & #5: Before jumping through the Goal Ring, look for a hidden cloud path to the left or right of the ring itself. Often, the final Wonder Wool and the last two Flowers are hidden in these small, easily missed areas. Jump around the edges of the screen near the Goal Ring to reveal them.
- Jump through the Goal Ring to complete the level!
Remember, patience is key in Lakitu Peekaboo. Don't rush through, and always be on the lookout for those tell-tale sparkling spots that indicate hidden items!
