Welcome to 5-1: Bouncy Boulders, a level that truly tests your mastery of Yoshi's signature flutter jump and ground pound, all while navigating treacherous terrain filled with springy enemies and bouncy platforms. This stage introduces the large, spherical Bouncy Boulders, which act as both obstacles and crucial tools for reaching elevated areas and hidden secrets. Precision and timing are key to collecting all the elusive collectibles and completing this challenging stage.

Walkthrough and Collectibles

Section 1: The Bouncy Boulder Gauntlet

The level begins immediately introducing you to the primary mechanic: large, red, spherical Bouncy Boulders. These enemies will bounce rhythmically. Use them to your advantage to reach higher platforms.

Smiley Flower #1: As you start, you'll encounter two large Bouncy Boulders. The first Smiley Flower is located high above the second Bouncy Boulder. Wait for the boulder to reach its peak bounce, then jump on it and perform a flutter jump to reach the flower floating above.
Wonder Wool #1: After collecting the first Smiley Flower, continue right. You'll see a series of small, bouncy platforms leading upwards. Instead of going straight up, look for a hidden cloud directly above the third small bouncy platform. Hit it with a yarn ball or a flutter jump to reveal the first Wonder Wool.
Smiley Flower #2: Proceed past the bouncy platforms. You'll come across a large gap with several Bouncy Boulders moving horizontally across it. The second Smiley Flower is situated on a small, stationary platform in the middle of this gap, just above the path of the third horizontally moving Bouncy Boulder. Time your jumps carefully across the boulders to land on the platform and grab the flower.

Section 2: Mid-Level Checkpoint and Erratic Bounces

After navigating the initial bouncy challenges, you'll reach the first checkpoint. Take a moment to stock up on yarn if needed.

Wonder Wool #2: Immediately after the checkpoint, you'll encounter a series of smaller, more erratically bouncing enemies (these are also Bouncy Boulders, but smaller and faster). Above the second erratic Bouncy Boulder, you'll spot a hidden cloud. Hit it with a yarn ball to reveal the second Wonder Wool.
Smiley Flower #3: Continue past the erratic Bouncy Boulders. You'll see a large, stationary Bouncy Boulder embedded in the ground, acting as a trampoline. Use this boulder to launch yourself high into the air. At the peak of your jump, flutter to the left to find a hidden alcove containing the third Smiley Flower.

Section 3: The Vertical Ascent

This part of the level requires precise vertical movement using a combination of Bouncy Boulders and flutter jumps.

Wonder Wool #3: As you ascend vertically, you'll encounter a tall shaft with several Bouncy Boulders moving up and down. About halfway up this shaft, look to the right. There's a visible but slightly out-of-reach cloud. Use a well-timed bounce off a Bouncy Boulder and a flutter jump to hit this cloud, revealing the third Wonder Wool.
Smiley Flower #4: Near the top of the vertical ascent, just before the next solid platform, you'll see a small, narrow passage to the left. It's easy to miss. Bounce off the final Bouncy Boulder in the shaft and flutter into this passage to find the fourth Smiley Flower.

Section 4: Hidden Passages and Final Challenges

The final stretch of the level offers some clever hidden areas and the last few collectibles.

Wonder Wool #4: After the vertical ascent, you'll land on a platform with a single Bouncy Boulder. Instead of moving right, perform a ground pound on the platform to the left of this boulder. This will reveal a hidden warp pipe. Enter the pipe. Inside this secret area, you'll find the fourth Wonder Wool floating above a small chasm. Carefully jump and flutter to retrieve it. Exit the pipe to return to the main path.
Smiley Flower #5: Continue right from where you found Wonder Wool #4 (or exited the secret pipe). You'll see a series of platforms leading to the right. Above the second platform, there's a visible but high-up cloud. Hit this cloud with a yarn ball to reveal a beanstalk. Climb the beanstalk to a secret area above, where the fifth Smiley Flower awaits.
Wonder Wool #5: After collecting the final Smiley Flower, drop back down to the main path. You'll encounter a final set of Bouncy Boulders leading to the goal. Just before the goal post, look for a small, seemingly empty space between the last Bouncy Boulder and the goal. Perform a high flutter jump here to reveal a hidden cloud containing the fifth and final Wonder Wool.

Mastering the bounce physics of the Bouncy Boulders is paramount in this level. Don't be afraid to experiment with your jumps and flutter timing. Keep an eye out for hidden clouds and subtle environmental cues, as many secrets are cleverly tucked away. Good luck, Yoshi!
