6-1: Fiery Fissures

Welcome to 6-1: Fiery Fissures, a scorching level that truly tests your platforming prowess and observational skills. This stage is characterized by treacherous lava pits, fire-spitting enemies, and rapidly crumbling platforms. To conquer these fiery challenges and collect every precious item, a keen eye and precise movements are essential. We highly recommend equipping the Immunity to Lava Power Badge for a less stressful experience, as it will allow you to focus more on exploration and less on avoiding instant death.

Level Overview and General Tips

  • Environmental Hazards: Lava is omnipresent. Touching it results in instant damage or loss of a life, unless you have the Immunity to Lava Power Badge.
  • Crumbling Platforms: Many platforms will disintegrate shortly after you step on them. Plan your jumps quickly and efficiently.
  • Fire-Spitting Enemies: Be wary of enemies that launch fireballs. Use your yarn eggs to defeat them from a safe distance or time your movements to avoid their attacks.
  • Hidden Paths: Keep an eye out for suspicious walls or areas that seem inaccessible. Yoshi's unraveling ability is key to uncovering secrets.
  • Beads: Collect as many beads as possible! They are scattered throughout the level, often in plain sight, but also hidden in invisible clouds or behind destructible elements. Aim for 1000 beads to earn a bonus life.
  • Stamp Patches: Don't forget the five hidden Stamp Patches! These are usually found in invisible clouds or by defeating specific enemies. Collecting all five in a level unlocks a new stamp for your Miiverse posts.

Collectible Guide: Wonder Wools and Smiley Flowers

This level contains 5 Wonder Wools to complete a Yoshi pattern and 5 Smiley Flowers to unlock the next stage. Follow these detailed instructions to find every single one:

Wonder Wools
  1. Wonder Wool #1: After navigating the initial series of platforms above the first large lava pit, you'll encounter a section with a few fire-spitting enemies. Look for an invisible cloud directly above the second fire-spitting enemy you encounter in this area. Jump and flutter to reveal it, then hit it with a yarn egg to make the Wonder Wool appear.
  2. Wonder Wool #2: Progress past the first checkpoint. You'll soon reach an area with a large, stationary fire-breathing enemy guarding a narrow passage. Instead of going directly past it, look for a small, elevated platform to the upper left of this enemy. Jump onto it, then flutter across a small gap to find a hidden alcove containing this Wonder Wool.
  3. Wonder Wool #3: In the section with the rapidly crumbling platforms, after collecting the second Smiley Flower (see below), you'll come to a slightly wider stable platform. To the right, you'll see a wall that looks slightly different from the others – it has a faint outline. Unravel this wall with a yarn egg to reveal a hidden passage leading to the Wonder Wool.
  4. Wonder Wool #4: Towards the end of the level, just before the final ascent to the goal post, you'll encounter a series of platforms moving up and down over a large lava pool. On the far right side of this area, above the lava, there's a small, isolated platform that is difficult to reach. You'll need to perform a precise flutter jump from a higher moving platform to land on it. This Wonder Wool is resting there.
  5. Wonder Wool #5: Near the very end of the level, just before the green pipe leading to the goal post, look for an invisible cloud positioned high above the last set of enemies. You'll need to jump off the highest platform and perform a long flutter jump, or use a strategically thrown yarn egg, to reveal and hit it. This will drop the final Wonder Wool.
Smiley Flowers
  1. Smiley Flower #1: Immediately after the first set of crumbling platforms, you'll see a series of small, stable platforms suspended over a large lava pit. The first Smiley Flower is prominently displayed on the third of these stable platforms. Time your jumps carefully to reach it without falling into the lava.
  2. Smiley Flower #2: After passing the first checkpoint, you'll enter a vertical shaft with several fire-spitting enemies and moving platforms. Ascend this shaft, and about halfway up, look for a small alcove on the left side that is partially obscured. The Smiley Flower is tucked away inside this alcove.
  3. Smiley Flower #3: In the challenging section filled with platforms that crumble quickly, this Smiley Flower is located on a stable, slightly larger platform in the middle of the sequence. You'll need to quickly jump across several crumbling platforms to reach this safe spot and grab the flower before continuing.
  4. Smiley Flower #4: Following the area with the fire-immune enemies, you'll come to a long horizontal stretch with several Piranha Plants emerging from pipes. Above the second Piranha Plant, there's a hidden cloud. Hit this cloud with a yarn egg to reveal a vine. Climb the vine to a secret upper path where this Smiley Flower awaits.
  5. Smiley Flower #5: Just before the final green pipe that leads to the goal, you'll see a large, rotating gear-like platform. The final Smiley Flower is located on a small, stationary platform directly above this rotating gear. You'll need to time your jump and flutter carefully to land on it and collect the flower.

Other Collectibles

Beyond the primary collectibles, keep an eye out for these valuable items:

  • Beads: Collect as many as you can! They are often found by defeating enemies, hitting invisible clouds, or simply by following the main path. There are several large bead clusters hidden in this level, particularly in areas requiring precise platforming or exploration of hidden passages.
  • Stamp Patches: There are five Stamp Patches in every level. In Fiery Fissures, look for them in the following general locations:
    • One is often found in an invisible cloud early in the level, usually above a lava pit.
    • Another can be revealed by defeating a specific enemy, often a larger fire-spitting one.
    • One is typically hidden behind a destructible wall or in a small alcove.
    • A fourth might be found by taking an alternate, slightly more challenging path.
    • The final Stamp Patch is usually located near the end of the level, sometimes requiring a tricky jump or a well-aimed yarn egg.

Mastering 6-1: Fiery Fissures requires patience and precision. Take your time, use your yarn eggs wisely, and don't be afraid to revisit sections if you miss a collectible. Good luck, Yoshi!
