Bestiary (Detailed Enemy Stats)

Welcome, brave adventurer, to the comprehensive Bestiary for Zelda II: The Adventure of Link! This section provides in-depth analysis of every foe you'll encounter, detailing their health, attack patterns, weaknesses, and the most effective strategies to overcome them. Mastering this knowledge is crucial for survival in Hyrule and for successfully awakening Princess Zelda.

Understanding Enemy Entries

Each enemy entry is structured to give you all the vital information at a glance:

  • Enemy Name: The official in-game name.
  • HP (Hit Points): The number of hits required to defeat the enemy with your starting sword. This can vary with sword upgrades and attack magic.
  • Damage Dealt: The amount of damage (in health bar segments) the enemy inflicts upon contact or successful attack.
  • Common Locations: Where you can expect to encounter this foe.
  • Drops: Potential items dropped upon defeat (e.g., Magic Jars, Bags, 1-Up Dolls).
  • Strategy: Detailed tactics for defeating the enemy, including recommended spells, items, and sword techniques.

Early Game Foes (Hyrule's Plains & Parapa Desert)

Octorok

  • HP: 1
  • Damage Dealt: 1 segment
  • Common Locations: Overworld (Hyrule Plains, Parapa Desert), some caves.
  • Drops: Small Magic Jar (rare)
  • Strategy: The most basic enemy. Octoroks spit rocks in a straight line. Simply approach and strike with your sword. If you're feeling fancy, a well-timed jump attack can also work. They pose little threat unless you're surrounded or distracted.

Moblin

  • HP: 2
  • Damage Dealt: 1 segment
  • Common Locations: Overworld (Hyrule Plains, Parapa Desert), some caves.
  • Drops: Small Magic Jar, 50 EXP Bag (uncommon)
  • Strategy: Moblins wield spears and charge at Link. Their attack range is limited to their spear's length. The easiest way to defeat them is to wait for them to charge, then step back slightly and strike as they pass. Alternatively, a well-timed jump attack over their spear can also connect. The "Shield" spell can reduce their damage, but it's usually overkill for these early foes.

Goriya

  • HP: 2
  • Damage Dealt: 1 segment
  • Common Locations: Overworld (Parapa Desert), Parapa Palace.
  • Drops: Small Magic Jar, 50 EXP Bag (uncommon)
  • Strategy: Goriyas are a bit trickier. They throw boomerangs that return to them. The boomerang itself can damage Link. The best strategy is to approach them cautiously. As they throw their boomerang, either jump over it or duck under it, then rush in for a quick sword strike. They are vulnerable while their boomerang is in the air. If you have the "Jump" spell, it can make dodging their boomerang much easier, allowing you to get in close.

Bot

  • HP: 1
  • Damage Dealt: 1 segment
  • Common Locations: Caves, Palaces (Parapa Palace).
  • Drops: None
  • Strategy: These small, flying creatures are more annoying than dangerous. They often appear in groups and fly erratically. A single sword strike will defeat them. The "Fairy" spell (obtained later) can be useful if you're overwhelmed, but for early encounters, simply jump and slash. Be careful not to get knocked into pits or other enemies while dealing with them.

Parapa Palace Denizens

Stalfos

  • HP: 3
  • Damage Dealt: 1 segment
  • Common Locations: Parapa Palace, other Palaces.
  • Drops: Small Magic Jar, 100 EXP Bag (uncommon)
  • Strategy: Stalfos are skeletal warriors that wield swords. They are more aggressive than Moblins and can block your attacks with their shield. The key to defeating them is to use the Downward Thrust. Jump and press down + attack to strike their head, bypassing their shield. Alternatively, you can try to hit them during their attack animation when their shield is momentarily lowered. The "Shield" spell can be helpful if you're struggling to land hits and are taking too much damage.

Iron Knuckle (Red)

  • HP: 8
  • Damage Dealt: 2 segments
  • Common Locations: Parapa Palace (mini-boss), other Palaces.
  • Drops: 200 EXP Bag, Large Magic Jar (rare)
  • Strategy: The Red Iron Knuckle is a formidable opponent. It moves slowly but has high defense and deals significant damage. It will block most of your frontal attacks. The most effective strategy is to use the Downward Thrust. Jump over its head and strike downwards. You can also try to hit its back if you can maneuver around it. The "Shield" spell is highly recommended for this fight to mitigate the heavy damage it deals. Conserve your magic for this encounter if possible.
