Torch Bearers & Light-Wielders

Torch bearers and other enemies who wield light sources are a unique and dangerous threat in A Plague Tale: Requiem. The rats, Amicia's most potent weapon against large groups of enemies, are repelled by light. Therefore, any enemy carrying a torch, lantern, or other significant light source effectively creates a safe zone for themselves and their allies, making them a priority target for neutralization.

When you encounter torch bearers, your immediate goal should be to extinguish their light source. This can be achieved in several ways. Amicia's sling can be used to shoot at the torch itself, causing it to drop and temporarily extinguish. Alchemical items like Stupefier can be thrown to temporarily douse flames, or is can be used to ite flammable objects near them, potentially causing a chain reaction that removes the light source.

Once the light is gone, the area becomes vulnerable to Hugo's rat swarms. Directing the rats towards these now-vulnerable enemies is often the most efficient way to clear them out. Be aware that some enemies might carry secondary light sources or be near braziers. You may need to deal with multiple light sources to create a path for your rats. If you can't immediately extinguish the light, focus on stealthily eliminating the torch bearer before they can alert others or use their light to their advantage. Remember that even a small flame can deter rats, so be mindful of the radius of their light.
