Age of Mythology: Retold blends real-time strategy with elements of mythology, allowing you to choose from three distinct civilizations: the Greeks, Egyptians, and Norse. Each civilization boasts unique units, technologies, and, most importantly, a pantheon of gods offering powerful Myth Units and God Powers. Mastering these differences is key to victory.
Your First Steps: The Golden Gift Campaign

Understanding Your Resources
Success in Age of Mythology: Retold hinges on efficient resource management. There are four primary resources:
- Food: Essential for training most human units, advancing through ages, and some technologies. Gathered from hunting, farming, fishing, or berry bushes.
- Wood: Primarily used for constructing buildings and some siege units. Gathered from trees.
- Gold: Crucial for training advanced units, researching technologies, and trading. Mined from gold mines or generated through trade routes.
- Favor: Unique to each civilization, Favor is used to train powerful Myth Units and activate devastating God Powers.
- Greeks: Generated by Villagers praying at a Temple.
- Egyptians: Generated by building Monuments.
- Norse: Generated by fighting and raiding, and by building Longhouses.
Choosing Your Deity and God Powers
At the start of each game and when advancing through ages, you'll select a Major God and then Minor Gods. These choices are permanent and significantly impact your strategic options. Each god grants unique God Powers and access to specific Myth Units and technologies.
- God Powers: These are powerful, one-time or limited-use abilities that can turn the tide of battle. Examples include the Greek's Lightning Storm (Zeus) or the Egyptian's Prosperity (Ra).
- Myth Units: Legendary creatures from mythology, such as the Greek Minotaur or the Egyptian Sphinx. These units are often powerful but require Favor to train.
Experiment with different god choices during the campaign and skirmish matches to discover which pantheon best suits your playstyle. Remember, a well-timed God Power can be more impactful than an entire army!
