Age of Mythology features four distinct civilizations, each with unique units, buildings, technologies, and God Powers: Greek, Egyptian, Norse, and Atlantean. Your choice of mythology significantly impacts your playstyle.

- Greeks: Balanced and strong in all areas. Their heroes are powerful and can convert Myth Units. Favor is gained by building Temples.
- Egyptians: Focus on economic strength and powerful siege units. Their Monuments generate Favor passively. Villagers are free, but buildings cost more.
- Norse: Aggressive and mobile. Their Ox Carts act as mobile drop-off points. Favor is gained by fighting and raiding. Human units can build.
- Atlanteans: Start with a free Oracle Scout and have powerful, expensive units. Their Town Centers can train all unit types. Favor is gained by building Manors.
Experiment with each to find the one that best suits your preferred strategy. Each mythology also has a pantheon of Major Gods (e.g., Zeus, Ra, Odin) and Minor Gods (e.g., Athena, Anubis, Freyja) that you choose as you advance through the ages, granting specific God Powers and Myth Units. Understanding these choices is crucial for developing a winning strategy.
