Crafting Your First Tools

Once you've settled onto your new island, one of your immediate priorities will be to craft your very first set of essential tools. These tools are crucial for gathering resources, interacting with your environment, and progressing through the early stages of island development. Don't worry, the process is straightforward, and Tom Nook will guide you through the initial steps.

Your first tool will likely be the Flimsy Fishing Rod. Tom Nook will give you the recipe for this after you've spoken to him a few times and explored a bit. To craft it, you'll need:

5x Tree Branches

Tree Branches are easily found by shaking any tree on your island. Simply walk up to a tree and press 'A'. They'll fall to the ground, ready for you to pick up. Once you have the branches, head to a DIY Workbench (Tom Nook will provide one in the Resident Services tent). Interact with the workbench, select the Flimsy Fishing Rod recipe, and craft it!

Next up is often the Flimsy Net. The recipe for this is also usually provided by Tom Nook early on, often after you've caught a few fish or bugs. For the Flimsy Net, you'll need:

5x Tree Branches

The process is identical: gather your branches, head to the DIY Workbench, and craft your net. These flimsy tools have limited durability, so be prepared to craft more as you use them. Don't worry, you'll soon unlock recipes for more durable versions!
