Bamboo is a unique and aesthetically pleasing plant that can sificantly enhance the natural beauty of your Animal Crossing: New Horizons island. Unlike regular trees, bamboo has a distinct look and provides valuable crafting materials like bamboo pieces and young spring bamboo (seasonally). Unlocking the ability to grow your own bamboo is a straightforward process, but it requires a bit of luck and exploration.
How to Get Bamboo
The primary method for acquiring bamboo in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is by visiting a Mystery Island Tour. These tours are accessed by purchasing a Nook Miles Ticket from the Nook Stop terminal in Resident Services for 2,000 Nook Miles. Once you have a ticket, head to the airport and speak with Orville to embark on your journey.
- Mystery Island Tours: Not all Mystery Islands will feature bamboo, as the island layouts and flora are randomized. You may need to visit several islands before you encounter one covered in bamboo.
- Harvesting Bamboo: Once you land on a bamboo island, you have two main options for bringing bamboo back to your island:
- Dig up whole bamboo plants: Use your shovel to dig up mature bamboo plants. You'll need to eat fruit (one fruit per plant) to gain the strength to dig up the entire plant. These can then be replanted directly on your island.
- Collect bamboo shoots: Bamboo shoots can be found buried near existing bamboo plants. Look for small star-shaped cracks in the ground, similar to where fossils are found. Digging these up will yield a bamboo shoot, which can be planted to grow a new bamboo stalk.
Tip: While on a bamboo island, chop down some bamboo stalks with your axe to gather bamboo pieces, which are essential for various DIY recipes. You can also dig up any bamboo shoots you find for a sustainable supply.
