Unlocking the Island Wood Growing System
As you settle into your new island life, you'll quickly realize the importance of resources, and wood is paramount. While initially you'll be chopping down existing trees, establishing your own sustainable wood-growing system is key for long-term crafting and island development. This early investment will save you countless hours later on.
The process of cultivating your own trees is straightforward but requires a few initial steps:
- Acquire Fruit: The easiest way to get tree saplings is by planting fruit. Each type of fruit (apples, oranges, cherries, peaches, pears, and coconuts) will grow into a tree that yields that specific fruit, but more importantly, provides wood. You'll start with one native fruit on your island, and can acquire others by visiting Nook Miles Ticket islands or through mail from your in-game mom.
- Dig a Hole: Use your shovel to dig a hole in any open spot on your island. Ensure there's at least one clear space in every direction around where you plan to plant the tree, otherwise, it won't grow to full size.
- Plant the Fruit: With the hole dug, open your inventory, select the fruit, and choose the "Plant" option. A small sapling will appear.
- Wait for Growth: Trees take approximately three days to grow from a sapling to a full-sized tree. During this time, you don't need to water them; they will grow automatically.
Pro Tip: Consider dedicating a specific area of your island as a "tree farm" for easy harvesting. Planting trees in rows with one space between them allows for efficient chopping and replanting.
