Advanced Strategies, Hidden Mechanics, and Easter Eggs
To move beyond the basics and achieve Predator rank, you must master the nuanced mechanics and tactical layers that define high-level play in the Outlands.
Elite Movement & Combat Mechanics
- Tap Strafing: By binding "Move Forward" to your scroll wheel, you can execute sharp, 180-degree turns mid-air while maintaining full momentum. This makes your trajectory unpredictable to enemies.
- Supergliding: At the very peak of a mantle animation, press jump and crouch simultaneously. If timed correctly, you will launch forward at nearly double the standard slide speed.
- Wall Bouncing: Slide-jump toward a flat wall, let go of your directional inputs, and press jump the moment you contact the surface to propel yourself backward or sideways, creating a massive gap between you and an attacker.
- Recoil Smoothing: Most weapons have virtually zero recoil if you track a target while moving sideways. By counter-aiming while strafing, the game's "recoil compensation" kicks in, turning your R-301 or Flatline into a laser.
High-Level Tactical Strategies
- Armor Swapping: Instead of using a battery mid-fight, loot a fallen enemy's death box immediately. A fresh "white" shield is always better than an empty "red" one during a chaotic push.
- Entry Fragging vs. Anchoring: Designate roles within your squad. An "Entry" (like Wraith or Octane) initiates with mobility, while the "Anchor" (like Gibraltar or Newcastle) holds the power position to prevent third parties.
- The "Edge of Zone" Meta: In pro play, staying on the edge of the ring allows you to gatekeep teams rotating late, ensuring you don't get pinched between two squads.
Hidden Mechanics & Secrets
- Door Kicking: You can destroy a door with two melee hits or a single Thermite/Frag grenade. However, placing a Wattson node or Caustic trap behind a door can prevent it from being opened from the outside.
- Inventory Management: In the late game, drop your Sniper/Shotgun ammo for extra "grenade spam." A coordinated three-man arc star toss can end a final circle fight before a single shot is fired.
Iconic Easter Eggs
- The Nessie Hunt: On King's Canyon, there are 10 small Nessie plushies hidden across the map. If shot in a specific order by a squad, a massive Nessie will rise from the ocean near Swamps.
- The Firing Range Trial: To activate the "AI Combatants," go to the far-left cave in the Firing Range, drop your weapons, crouch, and look down while changing Legends. You will hear a mechanical clink, and the training dummies will begin to hunt you.
- The Last Supper: Look for a hidden family portrait of the developers tucked away in the corners of World's Edge, usually found in hard-to-reach crevices near the Trials area.
