Armor
In the high-stakes environment of the Apex Games, your armor is your first and most crucial line of defense against enemy fire. Understanding the different types of armor, how they function, and how to upgrade them is essential for survival. Armor absorbs a significant portion of incoming damage, allowing you to stay in the fight longer and outlast your opponents. Prioritizing good armor and knowing when to replace damaged pieces can be the difference between victory and defeat.
There are two primary types of armor in Apex Legends: Body Shields and Evo Shields. While both serve the same purpose of protecting your health, they differ in how they are acquired and upgraded. Body Shields are found as loot, while Evo Shields are upgraded through combat. Both are vital components of your defensive strategy, and managing them effectively is key to success.
Body Shields are the traditional armor pieces found within the loot pool. They come in four distinct tiers, each offering progressively more shield health and a different color to sify its strength:
- White Body Shield (Level 1): Provides 50 shield health. This is the most common and weakest shield, often found early in the game.
- Blue Body Shield (Level 2): Provides 75 shield health. A significant upgrade from white, offering more survivability.
- Purple Body Shield (Level 3): Provides 100 shield health. This is a high-tier shield that offers substantial protection.
- Red Body Shield (Level 4): Provides 125 shield health. This is the highest tier of Body Shield, offering the most protection. It can only be obtained by upgrading a Purple Evo Shield.
When you find a Body Shield, it will be at its base level. If you find a higher-tier Body Shield, you can swap it out for your current one, provided it's an upgrade. Damaged Body Shields can be recharged using Shield Cells or Shield Batteries.
Evo Shields introduce a dynamic progression system to armor. Instead of finding them as static loot, Evo Shields are upgraded by dealing damage to enemies. As you accumulate damage, your Evo Shield will level up, increasing its shield health and changing its color. This system encourages aggressive play and rewards players for engaging in combat.
The Evo Shield tiers are as follows:
- White Evo Shield (Level 1): Starts at 25 shield health. Upgrades to 50 shield health.
- Blue Evo Shield (Level 2): Starts at 50 shield health. Upgrades to 75 shield health.
- Purple Evo Shield (Level 3): Starts at 75 shield health. Upgrades to 100 shield health.
- Red Evo Shield (Level 4): Starts at 100 shield health. Upgrades to 125 shield health. This is the final, most powerful tier.
The damage thresholds for each Evo Shield level are as follows:
| Evo Shield Level | Damage Required to Reach Level | Shield Health |
|---|---|---|
| White (Level 1) | 0 - 150 | 25 - 50 |
| Blue (Level 2) | 150 - 250 | 50 - 75 |
| Purple (Level 3) | 250 - 500 | 75 - 100 |
| Red (Level 4) | 500+ | 100 - 125 |
dealing damage to enemies with a higher-tier shield than yours will contribute more towards your Evo Shield upgrade. Conversely, dealing damage to enemies with lower-tier shields will contribute less. This mechanic incentivizes taking on tougher fights to progress your armor faster.
Managing your armor involves knowing when to engage, when to disengage to heal, and when to swap out damaged armor for a fresh piece. Always be on the lookout for higher-tier armor, and if your current armor is depleted, prioritize finding Shield Cells or Shield Batteries to recharge it.
