Body Shields (Evo Shields, Shield Cores)

In the unforgiving arenas of the Apex Games, your Body Shield is your primary defense against incoming enemy fire. These vital pieces of equipment absorb a significant amount of damage, allowing you to survive longer and engage in more firefights. Understanding the different tiers of Body Shields, how they function, and the unique progression of Evo Shields is crucial for maximizing your survivability and gaining a competitive edge.

Body Shields, often referred to as Shield Cores, come in several tiers, each offering a different amount of shield health. These shields are found as loot throughout the map and can be swapped out for a higher-tier shield if you find one. The color of the shield indicates its tier, providing a quick visual cue to its protective capabilities. Mastering the art of acquiring, maintaining, and upgrading your Body Shield is a fundamental skill in Apex Legends.

There are four main tiers of Body Shields:

  • White Body Shield (Level 1): This is the most basic shield, providing 50 shield health. It's commonly found early in the game and is essential for initial survival.
  • Blue Body Shield (Level 2): Offering 75 shield health, the Blue Body Shield is a significant upgrade and provides a noticeable increase in survivability.
  • Purple Body Shield (Level 3): With 100 shield health, the Purple Body Shield is a high-tier armor that offers substantial protection and is highly sought after.
  • Red Body Shield (Level 4): This is the ultimate Body Shield, providing 125 shield health. It's the most protective shield available and can only be obtained through the Evo Shield progression system.

When you find a Body Shield, it will be at its base level. If you find a higher-tier Body Shield, you can swap it out for your current one, provided it's an upgrade. Damaged Body Shields can be recharged using Shield Cells or Shield Batteries. It's always advisable to keep your shields topped up whenever possible.

The introduction of Evo Shields has added a dynamic layer to armor progression. Instead of solely relying on finding higher-tier shields, Evo Shields can be upgraded by dealing damage to enemies. As you accumulate combat score, your Evo Shield will level up, increasing its shield health and changing its color. This system rewards aggressive play and encourages players to engage in fights to improve their defenses.

The Evo Shield tiers and their progression are as follows:

  1. White Evo Shield (Level 1): Starts at 25 shield health. Upgrades to 50 shield health upon reaching 150 combat score.
  2. Blue Evo Shield (Level 2): Starts at 50 shield health. Upgrades to 75 shield health upon reaching 250 combat score.
  3. Purple Evo Shield (Level 3): Starts at 75 shield health. Upgrades to 100 shield health upon reaching 500 combat score.
  4. Red Evo Shield (Level 4): Starts at 100 shield health. Upgrades to 125 shield health upon reaching 1000 combat score. This is the final, most powerful tier.

The damage thresholds for each Evo Shield level are as follows:

Evo Shield Level Damage Required to Reach Level Shield Health
White (Level 1) 0 - 150 25 - 50
Blue (Level 2) 150 - 250 50 - 75
Purple (Level 3) 250 - 500 75 - 100
Red (Level 4) 500 - 1000 100 - 125

dealing damage to enemies with a higher-tier shield than yours will contribute more towards your Evo Shield upgrade. Conversely, dealing damage to enemies with lower-tier shields will contribute less. This mechanic incentivizes taking on tougher fights to progress your armor faster. A Red Evo Shield is a significant advantage, making you a formidable opponent.

Managing your armor involves knowing when to engage, when to disengage to heal, and when to swap out damaged armor for a fresh piece. Always be on the lookout for higher-tier armor, and if your current armor is depleted, prioritize finding Shield Cells or Shield Batteries to recharge it.
