Memory 02 - The Assassination of the Duke

Welcome, Assassin, to the second memory of "The Battle of Forlì" DLC. This memory sees Ezio tasked with eliminating the treacherous Duke Orsi, who has seized control of Forlì. This is a straightforward assassination mission, but careful planning and execution will ensure a clean kill and a swift escape. Remember to use your environment and Ezio's unique abilities to your advantage.

The Duke is heavily guarded, but his patrol route offers several opportunities for a discreet approach. We'll focus on a method that minimizes direct confrontation and maximizes stealth. Ensure your hidden blades are sharp and your throwing knives are stocked – they might just save your life.

Eliminating the Duke

  1. Infiltrate the Courtyard: From your starting position, head towards the main gate of the Duke's stronghold. Instead of going through the heavily guarded entrance, look for a series of crates and ledges on the left side of the gate. Use these to climb over the wall and into the outer courtyard.
  2. Locate the Duke: Once inside, activate your Eagle Vision (press L3/LS/C on Wii U Pro Controller) to quickly identify the Duke. He will be highlighted in gold. He typically patrols a circular route around the central fountain in the inner courtyard.
  3. Choose Your Approach: There are two primary stealthy approaches:
    • Rooftop Drop: Climb the buildings surrounding the inner courtyard. Wait for the Duke to pass directly below you, then perform an Air Assassination. This is often the quickest and most satisfying method.
    • Blend and Stab: If you prefer to stay on the ground, blend with groups of citizens or use haystacks for cover. Approach the Duke from behind when he is isolated and perform a High Profile Assassination. Be mindful of his bodyguards.
  4. Escape: After the assassination, immediately flee the area. The guards will be alerted. Head for the nearest escape route, which is usually over the walls you used to enter, or through a less guarded exit on the opposite side of the stronghold. Use smoke bombs if you get cornered.

Tip: Consider taking out a few isolated archers on the rooftops before attempting the assassination, especially if you plan a rooftop approach. This will prevent them from spotting you during your escape.
