The Crash Site — Baldur's Gate 3 Walkthrough
After escaping the Nautiloid, you'll find yourself at the crash site, marking the beginning of Act 1 and the main quest Find a Cure. This area is rich with early game encounters, including an injured Mind Flayer and the opportunity to recruit companions. Explore the crash site to gather supplies and progress your journey.
Upon reaching the crash site, head northeast. You will notice footprints and dead goblins, from which you can loot items and supplies. Continue following the path southwest to encounter an injured Mind Flayer (X:180 Y:325). Interacting with it presents several dialogue options:
- Give in to the emotion.
- This isn't right. Step away.
- No. You should be furious... shouldn't you?
Choosing "Give in to the emotion" leads to:
- [INTELLIGENCE] Concentrate on its thoughts.
- Take advantage of the lapse - break free.
Succeeding the Intelligence skill check reveals you can offer yourself for sustenance, leading to:
- Submit to the feeling - lean in, as for a kiss...
- [WISDOM] Resist the intrusion with everything you have.
Succeeding the Wisdom skill check prevents you from giving in. The Mind Flayer will appear exhausted with malicious eyes. You then have two options:
- Close those eyes forever.
- Leave it to die - slowly.
Choosing the first option results in killing the Mind Flayer, allowing you to loot its corpse.
After this encounter, head north and climb the platform, following the road uphill. Your character will hear shouting, and Shadowheart will suggest investigating. Along the way, you may find a dirt mound with a shovel, which can be dug to uncover a chest with loot.
The Explore the Ruins side quest begins near the crash site, referring to the Overgrown Ruins located just east. Here, you will experience combat, puzzles, and exploration. Within the Dank Crypt section of the ruins, you can find Withers, a useful NPC who can revive fallen characters, change your class, and provide hirelings at your camp.
The main quest Find a Cure has several sub-quests in Act 1:
- Ask the Goblin Priestess for Help
- Find the Githyanki Crèche
- Get Help from Auntie Ethel
- Get Help from Healer Nettie
- Help Omeluum Investigate the Parasite
- Rescue the Druid Halsin
Other notable encounters and quests in Act 1 include:
- Auntie Ethel: Consider her offer to eliminate the parasite at the Riverside Teahouse. This is mutually exclusive with Volo's Ersatz Eye and Wyll's stone eye options.
- Owlbear Cub: Encounter the mother Owlbear. After resting, find the Owlbear Cub in the Goblin Camp and free it through Chicken Chase or persuasion. After multiple rests, you can recruit the cub at your Campsite.
- Volo: Rescue Volo from the Goblin Camp. When speaking to him at the Campsite, inform him about your Tadpole infection.
