Introduction (Single Player):
This single player walkthrough is done on “hard” difficulty, which means there is less cover (press the cover button to crouch behind walls or objects) (protection from enemy fire) and less ammo. You also take more damage.
The respawn (be brought back to life at a checkpoint after death) (the act of reappearing after dying) system in Battlefield: Bad Company 2 differs from the previous game. In BC1, if you die, you spawn at the last checkpoint (an auto-save point you restart from on death) (a point in the game where progress is saved), but enemies stayed dead. In this game, if you die, you start back at the checkpoint and the enemies respawn with you.
Operation Aurora:
Section 1: Rendezvous with Japanese Defector
Objective: Secure Safe Passage to Rendezvous Point
Follow your squad across the river; they will give you a gun. Follow them up the hill.
Objective Complete
New Objective: Reach Trenches
Follow Mckee and the others. The Japanese enemies can withstand a good amount of damage, so ensure they are truly dead. Some may appear to be staggering but can still shoot you. You can pick up the Type 97 Japanese rifle, which has one-hit-kill power and accuracy, but may be difficult to use if you are not accustomed to single-shot weapons.
Climb the rope ladder and continue following Mckee and the squad until you reach a cutscene (a non-interactive cinematic the game plays automatically) (an animated sequence that advances the story). After the cutscene, eliminate any remaining enemies.
Objective Complete
New Objective: Locate the Defector
Follow your squad to a bridge on top of a hill. Proceed across the bridge for a movie sequence.
Objective Complete
Section Complete
Section 2: Find a transport
Objective: Follow unit to airfield
Follow your squad up the hill until you reach the road.
Objective Complete
New Objective: Capture Enemy Vehicle
Throw a grenade at the approaching enemies and run across the street when it detonates. Find cover near a building and eliminate hostiles. Your squadmates will assist with any missed enemies. Once the area is clear, get into the jeep.
Objective Complete
New Objective: Defend Vehicle
Use the mounted .30 caliber machine gun to eliminate enemy soldiers. When enemy jeeps appear, prioritize the gunner, then the jeep itself. After eliminating the gunner, focus on higher-priority targets like RPG-wielding enemies.
Objective Complete
Section Complete
Section 3: Escape the Island
Objective: Find Subpen Location.
Be aware of a machine gun nest around the corner and potential enemy ambushes. Maintain a quick trigger finger.
