Initial Ascent and Goblin Ambush

  • Upon entering Fright Cliff from the Sandgate Village path, you'll immediately encounter a winding, upward trail.
  • First Encounter: Two "Cliff Goblins" will drop from above as you round the first bend. These agile foes use short-range spears and can quickly close distances. Prioritize parries and counter-attacks.
  • Loot: After defeating the goblins, check the small alcove to the left of the path for a Minor Spirit Stone.

The Crumbling Ledges

The next section involves navigating a series of precarious ledges. Pay close attention to the ground beneath you, as some sections will give way after a short delay, plunging you into the chasm below.

  • Platforming Challenge: As you approach the first set of crumbling ledges, observe the pattern of their collapse. There's a brief visual cue (cracks appearing) before they fall.
  • Enemy Placement: A "Wind Serpent" will patrol the air above this section. This flying enemy shoots slow-moving projectiles. Use your staff's extended reach or a ranged ability (if unlocked) to take it down from a safe distance before attempting the jumps.
  • Hidden Path: After successfully crossing the crumbling ledges, look for a barely visible path leading down and to the right. This leads to a small cave containing a chest with a Greater Spirit Stone and a few Healing Herbs.

The Watchtower and Guardian

Further up the cliff, you'll spot a dilapidated watchtower, guarded by a formidable foe.

  • Approach: As you near the watchtower, a "Stone Sentinel" will awaken. This large, rock-skinned enemy is slow but hits incredibly hard. Its attacks have a wide arc, so dodge into or around its attacks rather than trying to backpedal.
  • Strategy: Exploit its slow recovery time after heavy attacks. Use your "Clone" ability to distract it, allowing you to get in several hits from behind.
  • Watchtower Interior: Inside the watchtower, you'll find a "Shrine of Contemplation," allowing you to rest and replenish your health and abilities. interact with it.
  • Item: On the top floor of the watchtower, retrieve the Talisman of Swiftness, which temporarily increases your movement speed.

Final Ascent to the Summit

The last stretch of Fright Cliff involves a series of vertical climbs and a final encounter before reaching the next area.

  • Wall Climbing: use the glowing handholds to scale the sheer rock face. Be wary of falling rocks triggered by unseen enemies above.
  • Ambush: Halfway up the climb, two "Cliff Harpies" will swoop down. These flying enemies are aggressive and can grab you, dropping you if you don't break free quickly. Use quick attacks to stun them out of their grab attempts.
  • Summit Encounter: At the very top, before the path to Crouching Tiger Temple, you'll face a "Gargoyle Brute." This mini-boss combines the strength of the Stone Sentinel with the agility of the Wind Serpent. It can perform devastating ground slams and also take to the air for dive attacks.
  • Boss Strategy: Focus on dodging its aerial attacks and counter-attacking immediately after it lands. When it charges its ground slam, create distance or use a perfect parry to stagger it. Deplete its health to gain access to the next area.
  • Reward: Defeating the Gargoyle Brute yields a significant amount of "Essence" and a rare crafting material, the Obsidian Shard.

Once the Gargoyle Brute is defeated, the path to the Crouching Tiger Temple will open, marking your successful navigation of Fright Cliff.
