Carcass Harvesting Efficiency
Maximizing the yield from harvested animal carcasses is critical for survival in Blackfrost: The Long Dark II. Every scrap of meat, hide, and sinew counts. The efficiency of your harvesting depends on the tools you use and the condition of the carcass.
The primary tools for harvesting are the Knife and the Hatchet. The Knife is generally better for detailed work like skinning and butchering smaller animals, while the Hatchet is more effective for breaking down larger carcasses and for harvesting hide and sinew from bigger game. When harvesting, prioritize obtaining the most valuable resources first. For most animals, this will be the meat. Aim for the largest portions of meat first, then move to smaller cuts.
After harvesting meat, focus on the hide. Animal hides are essential for crafting and repairing clothing, providing vital insulation against the extreme cold. Next, harvest sinew. Sinew can be used for crafting strong bindings, repairing items, and even creating fishing line. The quality of the carcass and the tools used will affect the amount of resources you obtain. A fresh carcass will yield more than one that has been partially scavenged by predators or has begun to decay. Always be aware of your surroundings while harvesting, as the activity can attract predators.
Consider the following table for general resource yields:
| Animal | Primary Meat Yield | Hide Yield | Sinew Yield |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rabbit | Moderate | Low | None |
| Deer | High | Moderate | Moderate |
| Wolf | Low | Moderate | Low |
| Bear | Very High | High | High |
Remember that these are estimates, and actual yields can vary based on game mechanics and the condition of the carcass.
