Secrets are a cornerstone of Blood's level design and are absolutely vital for survival, especially on higher difficulty settings. Each level typically has several secrets, and finding them often yields significant rewards like extra health, armor, ammunition for powerful weapons, or even the weapons themselves. The game will notify you with a distinct sound and a message ('You found a secret!') when you discover one.

Common Secret Indicators:
- Cracked Walls: Look for walls with visible cracks, different textures, or slight discoloration. These can often be opened by shooting them with any weapon, or by using Dynamite for a more dramatic effect.
- Suspiciously Placed Objects: A lone barrel, a stack of crates, or a piece of furniture that seems out of place might be hiding a switch or a secret passage behind it.
- Hidden Buttons/Levers: Sometimes, a small, almost invisible button or lever is tucked away in a dark corner, behind a pillar, or under a desk. These often open nearby secret doors.
- False Walls/Floors: Some walls or floor sections can be walked through or will open when you press 'Use' (E/Spacebar) on them. Look for slight texture differences or areas that don't quite match the surrounding environment.
- Ventilation Shafts: Keep an eye out for grates or openings that look like ventilation shafts. These often lead to hidden areas.
- Waterways/Underwater Passages: Sometimes, diving into water can reveal hidden tunnels or areas beneath the surface.
- Behind Waterfalls/Lavafalls: Classic FPS trope, always check behind waterfalls or lavafalls for hidden passages.
- Shooting Specific Objects: Occasionally, shooting a specific object (e.g., a light fixture, a painting) will trigger a secret door to open.
- Sound Cues: Pay attention to subtle sound cues. Sometimes, a faint creaking or mechanical whirring might indicate a hidden door opening nearby.
Tips for Secret Hunting:
- Hug Walls: Walk along every wall and press 'Use' frequently. Many secrets are activated by simply pressing 'Use' on a specific wall section.
- Shoot Everything: If something looks suspicious, shoot it. Cracked walls are the most common type of secret.
- Check Your Map: The automap (Tab key) can sometimes reveal suspicious areas or gaps in the map that might indicate a secret passage.
- Look Up and Down: Secrets aren't always at eye level. Check ceilings for hidden vents and floors for trapdoors.
- Revisit Areas: Sometimes, activating a switch in one part of the level will open a secret in a completely different, previously visited area.
Finding secrets not only provides valuable resources but also contributes to your overall score, which can be a fun challenge for completionists.
