Pthumeru Ihyll
The Pthumeru Ihyll Chalice Dungeon is the pinnacle of the Pthumerian labyrinth, a grueling gauntlet that culminates in one of the game's most challenging boss encounters. This Root Chalice is required to unlock the Great Pthumeru Ihyll Chalice, which in turn is essential for obtaining the coveted Yharnam Stone and the "Yharnam, Pthumerian Queen" trophy. Be prepared for a significant test of skill, patience, and resource management.
Chalice Creation and Materials
To create the Pthumeru Ihyll Chalice, you will need the following materials:
- Pthumeru Ihyll Chalice: Obtained by defeating the Bloodletting Beast in the Lower Pthumeru Chalice (Layer 4).
- Ritual Blood (5) x13: Found throughout various Pthumerian dungeons, particularly Lower Pthumeru and Defiled Chalices.
- Coldblood Flowerbud x4: These rare materials are often dropped by certain enemies in later Pthumerian dungeons or found in treasure rooms.
- Red Jelly x2: Can be found in the Isz Gravestone and Lower Loran Chalices, or purchased from the Insight Bath Messengers after acquiring them once.
- Arcane Haze x25: Easily acquired by breaking down ritual materials at the Ritual Altar.
It is highly recommended to have a strong build, upgraded weapons, and plenty of Blood Vials and Quicksilver Bullets before embarking on this dungeon.
Layer 1: The Descent into Madness
Upon entering Layer 1, you'll immediately notice the increased difficulty. Expect more aggressive Pthumerian Descendants and Guardians, often in groups. Prioritize crowd control and use your environment.
- Initial Area: Clear the initial corridor. Look for side passages that often contain Ritual Blood (5) or Tomb Mold (5).
- Main Chamber: A large, open room typically features several Pthumerian Descendants. Lure them out one by one if possible. There's often a treasure room off to the side containing valuable Blood Gems or Great One's Wisdom.
- Lever Room: The lever to open the boss door is usually guarded by a powerful Pthumerian Undead Giant or a pair of Pthumerian Descendants. Use charged attacks and parries to dispatch them efficiently.
Boss: Pthumerian Descendant
This agility-focused boss wields twin blades and attacks with relentless speed. His attacks are quick and can inflict rapid damage. Stay close, dodge into his attacks, and punish his recovery frames. He is susceptible to parries, so practice your timing. Be wary of his extended combos and his leaping attacks. A well-timed visceral attack can turn the tide.
Layer 2: The Gauntlet Continues
Layer 2 often introduces more challenging enemy combinations and environmental hazards. Watch out for traps and ambushes.
- Main Path: Navigate through winding corridors, often patrolled by large Pthumerian Guardians and sometimes even a Keeper of the Old Lords.
- Side Areas: Explore thoroughly. You might find a chest containing Coldblood Flowerbud or a rare Blood Gem. Be cautious of hidden enemies in treasure rooms.
- Lever Room: This room is frequently guarded by a powerful Pthumerian Elder or a group of ranged enemies. Use cover and pick them off strategically.
Boss: Bloodletting Beast (Headless)
This variant of the Bloodletting Beast is even more aggressive and unpredictable without its head. Its attacks are wide-sweeping and cover a large area. Focus on staying behind it and targeting its legs. Be extremely careful of its ground slams, which have a deceptively large hitbox. If you have a weapon with good reach, use it to your advantage. Fire paper or Bolt paper can be effective.
Layer 3: The Queen's Chamber
This final layer is the most difficult, leading to the ultimate challenge of the Pthumerian dungeons.
- Pre-Boss Area: The path to the final boss is typically shorter but heavily guarded. Expect multiple elite enemies, including Pthumerian Elders and Descendants, often in close quarters. Consider using a Blue Elixir to sneak past some enemies if you're low on resources.
- Treasure: Before the boss, there's usually a final treasure room containing a powerful Blood Gem or a significant amount of Insight.
Boss: Yharnam, Pthumerian Queen
The final boss of the Pthumeru Ihyll Chalice, Yharnam, Pthumerian Queen, is a formidable opponent. She has three distinct phases, each more challenging than the last.
- Phase 1: She will primarily use a blood magic projectile attack and summon blood pools that slow you down. Stay mobile and dodge her projectiles. Get in quick hits after her attacks.
- Phase 2: She will begin to summon illusions of herself. These illusions have less health but can deal significant damage. Focus on identifying and attacking the real Yharnam. Her illusions will disappear after a few hits.
- Phase 3: Yharnam will become even more aggressive, using a powerful scream that can stun you and summon multiple blood babies that explode on contact. Prioritize dodging the scream and the babies. Use your strongest attacks and consumables to finish her quickly.
Upon defeating Yharnam, Pthumerian Queen, you will receive the Yharnam Stone and unlock the "Yharnam, Pthumerian Queen" trophy, signifying your mastery of the Chalice Dungeons.
