The Camo challenge system in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II features five tiers of rewards, each with unique requirements:

• Base: Awarded by completing the weapon's base challenges, which range from 1-4 per weapon depending on its type.
• Gold: Unlocked after completing all base camo challenges for a specific weapon.
• Platinum: Requires earning a set number of Gold camos within a weapon category (e.g., a certain number of Gold SMGs).
• Polyatomic: Unlocked by obtaining 51 Platinum weapon camos, then completing harder, similar challenges to the base ones.
• Orion: Automatically awarded upon acquiring 51 Polyatomic weapon camos.

MW2's camo challenge system generally presents a few base challenges per weapon, with approximately 180 base challenges available at launch. These can include objectives like getting kills without reloading, securing long shots, achieving triple kills, or simply accumulating a set number of kills with the weapon. The number and criteria of these challenges vary by weapon and are only unlocked once you reach certain weapon levels.

To unlock Gold camo, you must first level up your weapon to unlock its challenges and then complete them. This may require deviating from meta builds and experimenting with different attachments, such as using the largest magazine or adding laser sights to sniper rifles for hip-fire accuracy. These challenges are designed to encourage players to master each weapon and its various playstyles.

After completing all base challenges for a weapon, Gold camo is unlocked. The game then indicates how many Gold camos are needed within a category to unlock Platinum. Upon unlocking Platinum, new, more difficult challenges become available for Polyatomic camo, likely requiring further adjustments to weapon builds and playstyles. To earn the Orion camo, you must complete these challenges across 51 weapons.
