Bestiary / Enemy List

Welcome, Alucard, to the comprehensive Bestiary of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night! This section is your ultimate guide to understanding the denizens of Dracula's Castle, from the lowliest Zombie to the most formidable demon. Knowing your enemy is half the battle, and here you'll find detailed strategies, item drops, and locations to aid you in your quest.

Each entry provides critical information to help you navigate the castle and optimize your combat approach. Pay close attention to enemy weaknesses, as exploiting them can turn a challenging encounter into a trivial one. Furthermore, many enemies drop valuable items, equipment, or even food that can significantly boost your progress.

Understanding Enemy Entries

  • Name: The official name of the enemy as it appears in the game.
  • Location(s): Where you can typically find this enemy within the castle. Note that some enemies appear in both the normal and inverted castles.
  • HP: The enemy's approximate hit points. This can vary slightly based on your current luck stat and equipment.
  • EXP: Experience points gained upon defeating the enemy. Essential for leveling up Alucard.
  • Gold: The amount of gold dropped by the enemy. Useful for purchasing items from the Master Librarian.
  • Item Drops: A list of potential items the enemy can drop. These drops are often crucial for completing quests, acquiring powerful gear, or simply stocking up on consumables. Drop rates are influenced by your LCK stat.
  • Strategy: Detailed advice on how to effectively combat the enemy, including recommended weapons, sub-weapons, magic, and movement patterns to exploit.

Castle Entrance & Alchemy Laboratory

Zombie

  • Location(s): Castle Entrance, Alchemy Laboratory
  • HP: 10
  • EXP: 1
  • Gold: 1
  • Item Drops:
    • Potion (Common)
    • Cloth Tunic (Rare)
  • Strategy: The most basic enemy. Zombies are slow and predictable. Any attack will suffice. A single sword swing or even a punch will dispatch them. They pose little threat, but can overwhelm in large numbers if you're not careful. Use them to practice new weapons or sub-weapons.

Merman

  • Location(s): Castle Entrance (waterways), Underground Caverns
  • HP: 15
  • EXP: 2
  • Gold: 5
  • Item Drops:
    • Antidote (Common)
    • Leather Shield (Rare)
  • Strategy: Mermen emerge from water and spit projectiles. They are easily defeated with a single sword strike. When approaching water, be ready for them to jump out. The Leather Shield is a decent early-game drop if you're lucky, offering some basic defense.

Bat

  • Location(s): Castle Entrance, Alchemy Laboratory, Marble Gallery
  • HP: 5
  • EXP: 1
  • Gold: 1
  • Item Drops:
    • Grapes (Common)
    • Monster Vial 1 (Rare)
  • Strategy: Small, flying enemies that move in simple patterns. A single attack will usually defeat them. They can be annoying in groups, especially in narrow corridors. The Axe sub-weapon is effective for clearing multiple bats.

Marble Gallery & Outer Wall

Fleaman

  • Location(s): Marble Gallery, Outer Wall, Olrox's Quarters
  • HP: 20
  • EXP: 5
  • Gold: 10
  • Item Drops:
    • Cheese (Common)
    • Bandanna (Rare)
  • Strategy: These agile, jumping enemies are a classic Castlevania nuisance. They are small and difficult to hit with some weapons. A downward sword thrust (jump + down + attack) is very effective, as is the Axe sub-weapon. Be wary of their erratic movements, as they can quickly close distances.

Bone Scimitar

  • Location(s): Marble Gallery, Outer Wall
  • HP: 30
  • EXP: 7
  • Gold: 15
  • Item Drops:
    • Short Sword (Common)
    • Scimitar (Rare)
  • Strategy: Skeletons wielding scimitars. They have a basic melee attack and can sometimes throw their scimitar. Their attacks are telegraphed, making them easy to block or dodge. The Shield Rod can be very effective here, especially if you've found a decent shield. The Scimitar drop is a good early-game weapon upgrade.

Underground Caverns & Catacombs

Fishhead

  • Location(s): Underground Caverns
  • HP: 25
  • EXP: 6
  • Gold: 12
  • Item Drops:
    • Sardine (Common)
    • Aquamarine (Rare)
  • Strategy: Similar to Mermen, but these aquatic creatures are more aggressive. They often appear in groups and can spit multiple projectiles. The Holy Water sub-weapon is excellent for clearing them out, as it hits multiple enemies and deals fire damage. The Aquamarine is a valuable gem that can be sold for a good amount of gold.

Corpseweed

  • Location(s): Catacombs
  • HP: 40
  • EXP: 10
  • Gold: 20
  • Item Drops:
    • Poison Mist (Common)
    • Iron Ball (Rare)
  • Strategy: Stationary plant-like enemies that spit poisonous gas. They are rooted to the spot, making them easy targets. Attack from a distance with a projectile sub-weapon or magic if you want to avoid the poison. If you get poisoned, use an Antidote. The Iron Ball is a unique weapon drop, though not always practical.

Royal Chapel & Clock Tower

Winged Guard

  • Location(s): Royal Chapel, Clock Tower
  • HP: 50
  • EXP: 15
  • Gold: 30
  • Item Drops:
    • Falchion (Common)
    • Knight Shield (Rare)
  • Strategy: Heavily armored flying knights. They wield swords and can be quite resilient. Use strong attacks or magic. The Falchion is a decent sword, and the Knight Shield offers a significant defense boost. Consider using the Shield Rod + Alucard Shield combo if you've acquired it for an easy fight.

Medusa Head

  • Location(s): Clock Tower, Olrox's Quarters (Inverted Castle)
  • HP: 1
  • EXP: 1
  • Gold: 1
  • Item Drops:
    • Nothing
  • Strategy: These iconic enemies are more of an environmental hazard than a direct threat. They fly in predictable sine wave patterns. While they have only 1 HP, their ability to petrify Alucard makes them dangerous. If you get hit, rapidly wiggle the joystick to break free before a follow-up attack. The Stone Mask accessory can prevent petrification.

Werewolf

  • Location(s): Olrox's Quarters, Reverse Olrox's Quarters
  • HP: 120
  • EXP: 50
  • Gold: 100
  • Item Drops:
    • Power of Sire (Common)
    • Werewolf Claw (Rare)
  • Strategy: Fast and aggressive melee attackers. They can lunge and swipe quickly. Blocking with a shield is effective, or using a quick weapon like the Alucard Sword. The Power of Sire is a valuable stat-boosting item. The Werewolf Claw is a unique weapon that can be quite powerful, especially with its special attack (forward, down, down-forward + attack).

Minotaur

  • Location(s): Olrox's Quarters, Reverse Olrox's Quarters
  • HP: 150
  • EXP: 60
  • Gold: 120
  • Item Drops:
    • Fury Plate (Common)
    • Minotaur Axe (Rare)
  • Strategy: Large, slow, but powerful enemies. They wield a massive axe and can charge. Their attacks are telegraphed, allowing for dodges or blocks. Use hit-and-run tactics or powerful magic. The Fury Plate is a strong armor piece, and the Minotaur Axe is a heavy but potent weapon.

  • EXP: 0
  • Gold: 0
  • Item Drops:
    • Various items for sale (see "Master Librarian" section)
  • Strategy: The Master Librarian is not an enemy to be fought, but a crucial NPC. He sells items, relics, and provides valuable information. You can access his shop by sitting on the chair in his room. check his inventory regularly as new items become available throughout your journey. You can also perform a "chair glitch" to access his inventory from below, but this is not necessary for normal gameplay.

Ghost

  • HP: 10
  • EXP: 3
  • Gold: 5
  • Item Drops:
    • Heart Refresh (Common)
    • Spirit Orb (Rare)
  • Strategy: Ethereal enemies that float through walls. They are weak and easily dispatched, but their ability to pass through terrain can make them tricky to hit. Use weapons with good reach or projectile sub-weapons. The Spirit Orb is a useful accessory that slightly increases magic regeneration.

Reverse Castle

  • EXP: 150
  • Gold: 200
  • Item Drops:
    • Dark Blade (Common)
    • Alucard Shield (Rare)
  • Strategy: Extremely fast and aggressive panthers. They can pounce and swipe with incredible speed. A strong defense and quick reflexes are key. The Alucard Shield is one of the best shields in the game, especially when paired with the Shield Rod for its devastating special attack. Farming Black Panthers for this shield is highly recommended.

Schmoo

  • Location(s): Reverse Library
  • HP: 80
  • EXP: 100
  • Gold: 150
  • Item Drops:
    • Crissaegrim (Rare)
  • Strategy: These small, floating enemies are infamous for dropping the Crissaegrim, arguably the most powerful weapon in the game. They are not particularly dangerous themselves, but their high HP and the rarity of the drop make farming them a test of patience. Equip Lapis Lazuli and other LCK-boosting gear to maximize your chances. The Crissaegrim allows Alucard to attack continuously with multiple sword strikes, making most subsequent encounters trivial.

Galamoth

  • Location(s): Reverse Clock Tower

  • EXP: 20000
  • Gold: 0
  • Item Drops:
    • Power of Sire (Rare)
