Bestiary Entries & Item Drops
Understanding the denizens of Dracula's Castle and what treasures they guard is crucial for any aspiring vampire hunter. This section details common enemies, their locations, effective strategies for defeating them, and, most importantly, their valuable item drops. Remember, item drops are often percentage-based, so persistence is key!
Castle Entrance & Alchemy Laboratory
Zombie
- Location: Abundant in the Castle Entrance and Alchemy Laboratory.
- Strategy: These shambling undead are the weakest enemies in the game. A single swing of Alucard's starting Short Sword is usually enough. They pose little threat individually but can overwhelm in groups early on.
- Item Drops:
- Potion: A common restorative item. Useful for topping off health in the early game. Farm these if you're low on healing supplies before venturing deeper.
- Cloth Tunic: A basic piece of armor. Offers minimal defense but is better than nothing if you haven't found a better chest piece.
Merman
- Location: Found in the watery sections of the Castle Entrance, particularly near the aqueduct leading to the Alchemy Laboratory.
- Strategy: Merfolk are agile and attack by spitting projectiles. Keep your distance and use ranged attacks (like the Axe sub-weapon) or time your sword swings to hit them as they emerge from the water.
- Item Drops:
- Attack Potion: Temporarily boosts Alucard's attack power. Handy for boss fights or clearing tough rooms.
- Leather Shield: A basic shield. Offers a small defense bonus and can block some projectiles.
Bat
- Location: Scattered throughout the Castle Entrance and Alchemy Laboratory, often in higher areas or narrow corridors.
- Strategy: Bats fly erratically and can be annoying. A well-timed jump attack or a quick sword swing will dispatch them. The Knife sub-weapon is also effective.
- Item Drops:
- Grapes: A minor health recovery item.
- Red Rust: A cursed sword. While it has decent attack power early on, its curse drains Alucard's HP over time. Generally not recommended unless you have a specific strategy in mind to mitigate the curse.
Marble Gallery & Outer Wall
Fleaman
- Location: Prevalent in the Marble Gallery and Outer Wall, often found clinging to walls or ceilings.
- Strategy: These small, agile creatures leap and cling, making them difficult to hit with standard ground attacks. Use jump attacks or the Axe sub-weapon for easier targeting.
- Item Drops:
- Basilard: A quick dagger weapon. Its low damage is offset by its speed, making it good for rapid hits.
- Leather Hat: A basic headpiece. Offers minimal defense.
Bone Scimitar
- Location: Encountered in the Marble Gallery, particularly in the longer hallways.
- Strategy: These skeletal warriors wield scimitars and have a decent reach. Block their attacks with a shield if possible, or engage them with quick, aggressive strikes to prevent them from attacking.
- Item Drops:
- Scimitar: A decent early-game sword with good reach. A solid upgrade from the Short Sword.
- Bandanna: A head accessory that provides a small defense bonus.
Warg
- Location: Found in the Outer Wall and sometimes in the Marble Gallery.
- Strategy: These large wolves are aggressive and charge at Alucard. They can be knocked back with strong attacks. The Holy Water sub-weapon can stun them, allowing for free hits.
- Item Drops:
- Shield Rod: A unique weapon that, when combined with a shield, performs powerful special attacks. Essential for certain advanced strategies and finding hidden rooms. Highly recommended to farm for this!
- Iron Knuckle: A basic fist weapon. Not particularly strong but can be useful for specific combat styles.
Underground Caverns & Olrox's Quarters
Cave Troll
- Location: Primarily in the Underground Caverns.
- Strategy: These large, lumbering creatures are slow but hit hard. They often drop rocks from the ceiling. Attack them from a distance or get in close and use rapid attacks to stagger them.
- Item Drops:
- Broadsword: A powerful two-handed sword. While slow, its damage output is significant for this stage of the game.
- Stone Mask: A headpiece that offers good defense but can be heavy.
Scylla Worm
- Location: Found exclusively in the Underground Caverns, often in the water.
- Strategy: These worms are part of the larger Scylla boss encounter but also appear as regular enemies. They are vulnerable when they emerge from the water. Use the Axe or Holy Water for effective damage.
- Item Drops:
- Reverse Backdash: A rare scroll that teaches Alucard the Reverse Backdash special move. This move is incredibly useful for evasion and speedrunning. Farm for it!
- Meal Ticket: Can be exchanged for a meal at the castle's kitchen (if you know where to look!).
Werewolf
- Location: Common in Olrox's Quarters.
- Strategy: Werewolves are fast and aggressive, often leaping at Alucard. They are susceptible to fire-based attacks, so the Agunea sub-weapon or fire spells can be very effective.
- Item Drops:
- Combat Knife: A fast and reliable knife weapon. A good choice for quick, successive hits.
- Power of Sire: A rare accessory that boosts Alucard's Strength. Highly sought after for melee builds.
Clock Tower & Orlox's Quarters
Medusa Head
- Location: Ubiquitous in the Clock Tower, also found in other areas.
- Strategy: These flying heads move in predictable wave patterns. They can turn Alucard to stone if he touches their gaze. Use jump attacks or ranged sub-weapons to dispatch them quickly before they become a nuisance.
- Item Drops:
- Medusa Shield: A shield that can reflect certain projectiles. Useful in specific situations.
- Stone of Good Luck: An accessory that increases Alucard's Luck stat, improving item drop rates. Essential for farming rare items!
Harpy
- Location: Found in the Clock Tower, often flying above chasms.
- Strategy: Harpies attack with dive bombs and can be tricky to hit. Wait for them to descend or use upward-hitting attacks like the Axe sub-weapon.
- Item Drops:
- Feather Sword: A light and fast sword. Good for players who prioritize speed over raw power.
- Heart Refresh: Restores a small amount of hearts.
This is just a selection of the countless creatures you'll encounter. Always check your in-game Bestiary for more details on enemy weaknesses and potential drops. Happy hunting, Alucard!
