Environmental Puzzles and Solutions
The world of Children of the Sun is fraught with danger, but also rich with hidden pathways and valuable resources locked behind clever environmental puzzles. Mastering these challenges is crucial for progression and uncovering the game's deepest secrets. This section will guide you through some of the most common puzzle types and their solutions.

Light Manipulation Puzzles
Many areas require precise manipulation of light sources to reveal hidden paths or activate mechanisms. Your primary tool for these puzzles is the Sunstone Lens, acquired early in the game from the Sunken Temple of Lumina.
- Reflecting Beams: In the Glimmering Grotto, you'll encounter a series of ancient mirrors. To open the path to the Whispering Falls, you must direct the central light beam from the Grand Lumina Crystal.
- Locate the Grand Lumina Crystal on the upper platform of the Glimmering Grotto's main chamber.
- Use your Sunstone Lens to capture a beam of light from the crystal.
- Direct this beam onto the first Reflector Mirror (A), located directly opposite the crystal.
- Adjust Reflector Mirror (A) to bounce the light towards Reflector Mirror (B), situated on a lower ledge to the east.
- Finally, angle Reflector Mirror (B) to illuminate the Ancient Sun Dial embedded in the northern wall. This will cause the large stone door to retract, granting access to the Whispering Falls.
- Shadow Casting: Certain puzzles require you to cast specific shadows to unlock doors or reveal invisible platforms. In the Twilight Archives, you'll find a series of Obscura Lanterns.
- In the first chamber of the Twilight Archives, observe the pattern on the floor. It depicts a stylized "Solar Serpent."
- Locate the three Obscura Lanterns scattered around the room. Each lantern casts a different shadow.
- Activate the Central Obscura Lantern first. This will cast a large, indistinct shadow.
- Next, activate the Eastern Obscura Lantern. Its shadow will partially overlap the central one.
- Finally, activate the Western Obscura Lantern. Carefully rotate this lantern using the environmental interaction prompt until its shadow perfectly completes the "Solar Serpent" pattern on the floor. A hidden staircase will then materialize in the center of the room.
Pressure Plate and Weight Puzzles
These puzzles often involve placing specific items on pressure plates or manipulating heavy objects to trigger mechanisms. The Stone of Gravity, found in the Forgotten Catacombs, is essential for moving heavier objects.
- Balancing the Scales: The Celestial Observatory presents a challenge involving two large scales. To activate the telescope, you must balance them perfectly.
- Observe the two large scales in the main chamber of the Celestial Observatory. One is currently empty, the other holds a single Star Fragment.
- Locate the Storage Chest near the entrance. Inside, you'll find three additional Star Fragments and a single Lunar Orb.
- Place two of the Star Fragments onto the empty scale. This will cause it to descend slightly.
- Now, carefully remove the single Star Fragment from the other scale and replace it with the Lunar Orb. The Lunar Orb is significantly heavier.
- The scales should now be perfectly balanced, with two Star Fragments on one side and the Lunar Orb on the other. This will activate the central telescope, revealing a new constellation and opening a secret passage to the Starlight Ascent.
- Sequential Pressure Plates: In the Echoing Caverns, a series of glowing pressure plates must be activated in a specific order to open the path to the Deep Mire.
- Upon entering the Echoing Caverns, you'll notice five glowing pressure plates arranged in a circle. A faint inscription on the central pillar reads: "Sun, Moon, Star, Cloud, Rain."
- Identify the plate corresponding to the "Sun" (the brightest, central plate). Step on it first.
- Next, locate the "Moon" plate (the one with a crescent symbol). Step on it.
- Proceed to the "Star" plate (marked with a five-pointed star).
- Then, find the "Cloud" plate (a swirling pattern).
- Finally, step on the "Rain" plate (a series of falling droplets).
- If done correctly, a rumbling sound will indicate the opening of the large stone gate leading to the Deep Mire. If you make a mistake, all plates will reset, and you must start again.
Elemental Interaction Puzzles
Some puzzles require you to use your elemental abilities (Fire, Water, Wind, Earth) to alter the environment. These abilities are unlocked by acquiring the respective Elemental Shards from various boss encounters.
- Thawing Frozen Passages: In the Glacial Peaks, you'll encounter thick ice walls blocking your path. Your Fire Shard, obtained from the defeat of Ignis, the Flame Guardian, is crucial here.
- When you reach the impassable ice wall in the Glacial Peaks, activate your Fire Shard ability.
- Target the center of the ice wall with your concentrated flame burst. Maintain the stream of fire until the ice visibly cracks and begins to melt.
- Continue applying fire until the entire wall collapses, revealing the path to the Crystal Caves. Be mindful of your elemental energy; if it depletes, you'll need to wait for it to regenerate before continuing.
- Manipulating Water Levels: The Flooded Ruins of Aquatica require you to raise and lower water levels to access different areas. The Water Shard, acquired after defeating Hydro, the Tide Weaver, is your key.
- In the main chamber of the Flooded Ruins, you'll see a large central pillar with three distinct water level indicators.
- To reach the upper platform containing the Ancient Key of Tides, you need to raise the water to the highest level. Activate your Water Shard ability and target the large water spout on the eastern wall. Maintain the flow of water until the indicator reaches its maximum.
- Once the water is at its highest, swim across to the upper platform and retrieve the Ancient Key of Tides.
- To access the lower chamber where the Sunken Chest is located, you must lower the water to its lowest level. Target the large drain on the western wall with your Water Shard, reversing its flow to drain the chamber. This will reveal the Sunken Chest, which contains valuable crafting materials.
