New Game+ (New Game Plus)

Replay Chrono Trigger with New Game Plus. Carry over elements from your completed save file to pursue different endings and uncover more secrets.

New Game+ (New Game Plus)

Chrono Trigger's New Game Plus (NG+) mode offers a unique way to replay the game, allowing you to carry over certain elements from your completed save file. This feature enhances replayability by letting you tackle the game with your accumulated knowledge, stronger characters, and the ability to pursue different endings and secrets more easily.

When you start a New Game Plus, you retain several key aspects from your previous playthrough:

  • Gold: All the money you accumulated will carry over, allowing you to purchase the best equipment from the start.
  • Tech Points (TP): Your characters will retain their learned Techs and their TP levels, meaning you can use powerful abilities from the outset.
  • Levels: While your characters' levels will reset to their starting point, their stat growth from the previous playthrough is often retained in some form, making them stronger than a typical first-time playthrough at the same level. (Note: This can vary slightly between versions of the game).
  • Key Items: Certain crucial items, like the Time Egg, are carried over. The Time Egg is particularly important as it allows you to fight the awakened Time Devourer at any point in the game, facilitating access to multiple endings.
  • Recruited Characters: If you recruited optional characters in your previous playthrough, you can re-recruit them much earlier in the game, often after obtaining the Chrono Cross Element.

Benefits of New Game Plus:

  • Access to Multiple Endings: NG+ is essential for unlocking all of Chrono Trigger's endings. You can use the Time Egg to fight Lavos at different points in the story, leading to various conclusions.
  • Faster Progression: With your knowledge of the game and stronger base stats, you can complete the story much faster, focusing on side quests and secrets you may have missed.
  • Experimentation: Try out different party compositions, character builds, and strategies without the pressure of a first playthrough.
  • Collecting Everything: It becomes much easier to collect all items, equipment, and complete all side quests when you can breeze through the main story.

To initiate New Game Plus, simply select the "New Game" option after completing the game and saving your final file. The game will prompt you to load your cleared save data, and from there, you can begin your enhanced journey.
