Companion Management
In CloverPit, your companions are more than just extra damage; they are integral to your survival and success. Effective companion management involves understanding their unique roles, equipping them properly, and using their skills strategically. This detailed guide will help you master the art of leading your team through the perilous lands.
Recruiting Companions
Your journey begins with recruiting the right allies. While some companions join automatically through the main questline, others require specific actions or item acquisitions.
- Elara, the Swift Archer: Joins your party after completing the quest "Whispers in the Verdant Glade" in the Sunken Mire. Ensure you speak with her at the Mire's Edge camp after defeating the Bog Lurker.
- Kael, the Stalwart Guardian: Can be found imprisoned in the Caged Mines, accessible after acquiring the Mine Key from the Bandit Leader in the Crimson Peaks. Freeing him initiates his companion quest, "Chains of the Past."
- Lyra, the Arcane Weaver: Requires a more mystical approach. You must first collect three C-Beams Fragments from the Arcane Sanctum, the Forgotten Library, and the Whispering Caves. Once all three are obtained, present them to the Ancient Seer in the Celestial Spire to unlock Lyra.
Companion Roles and Abilities
Each companion brings a distinct set of skills to your team. Understanding their strengths and weaknesses is crucial for optimal party composition.
- Elara (Ranged DPS): Excels at single-target damage from a distance.
- Primary Skill: Volley of Thorns - Unleashes a rapid succession of arrows, dealing significant damage to a single foe.
- Utility Skill: Hunter's Mark - Marks an enemy, increasing all incoming damage to that target by 15% for 10 seconds.
- Best Paired With: Tanky companions like Kael to draw aggro, allowing Elara to fire unhindered.
- Kael (Tank/Crowd Control): Specializes in absorbing damage and controlling enemy movement.
- Primary Skill: Shield Bash - Stuns a single enemy for 3 seconds and generates high threat.
- Utility Skill: Guardian's Roar - Taunts all nearby enemies, forcing them to attack Kael for 5 seconds.
- Best Paired With: Any damage dealer, especially those with area-of-effect abilities, to maximize their impact while Kael holds the line.
- Lyra (Support/Healer): Focuses on healing allies and providing beneficial buffs.
- Primary Skill: Mending Weave - Heals the lowest health ally for a moderate amount.
- Utility Skill: Arcane Barrier - Grants a temporary shield to all allies, absorbing a set amount of damage.
- Best Paired With: All party members, as her healing and shielding are universally beneficial.
Equipping Companions
Just like your main character, companions benefit greatly from proper gear. Their equipment slots are accessible via the "Companions" tab in your inventory menu.
- Weapons: Equip weapons appropriate to their class. Elara uses Bows, Kael uses Swords and Shields, and Lyra uses Staves.
- Recommended Early Game:
- Elara: Forest Hunter's Bow (Dropped by Forest Sprites in the Sunken Mire).
- Kael: Ironclad Blade and Reinforced Kite Shield (Craftable at any Blacksmith with 5 Iron Ore and 3 Leather Scraps).
- Lyra: Apprentice's Staff (Purchased from the Arcane Vendor in the Celestial Spire for 150 Gold).
- Recommended Early Game:
- Armor: Prioritize armor that boosts their primary stats.
- Elara: Focus on Agility and Critical Chance. Look for Leather Vest of the Hawkeye (Found in chests in the Crimson Peaks).
- Kael: Focus on Constitution and Defense. Seek out Plate Gauntlets of Fortitude (Reward for completing the "Caged" side quest in the Caged Mines).
- Lyra: Focus on Intellect and Spirit. The Woven Robes of Clarity (Dropped by Arcane Sentinels in the Arcane Sanctum) are an excellent choice.
- Accessories: Rings and amulets can provide crucial stat boosts or unique effects.
- Universal Recommendation: The Amulet of Vitality (+50 HP) can be purchased from any General Goods vendor for 75 Gold and is beneficial for all companions.
- Elara: Ring of Precision (+5% Critical Chance), found in a hidden alcove near the C-4 Explosives cache in the Bandit Camp.
- Kael: Ring of Resilience (+10 Defense), dropped by the Earth Elemental in the Whispering Caves.
- Lyra: Ring of Focus (+10 Spirit), obtained by completing the "C-TAS: A Virtual Chinese Learning Game" mini-game in the Celestial Spire.
- Follow: Companions will stick close to you and attack your current target. Ideal for general exploration.
- Attack My Target: All companions will focus their attacks on the enemy you are currently targeting. Essential for quickly eliminating high-priority threats.
- Hold Position: Companions will remain stationary and attack any enemy that comes within range. Useful for setting up ambushes or protecting a specific area.
- Defensive Stance: Companions will prioritize defending themselves and healing allies if applicable. Less aggressive, but good for conserving health.
- Aggressive Stance: Companions will actively seek out and engage nearby enemies. Use with caution, as they may pull unintended groups.
- Elara's Quest: "The Stolen Quiver" - Recover her ancestral bow from the C-Dogs in the Shadowfen. Completing this quest unlocks her passive ability, Swift Reflexes, increasing her dodge chance by 5%.
- Kael's Quest: "The Broken Oath" - Help him clear his name by defeating the corrupt C. Kane in the Royal Archives. This quest grants him the Unyielding Resolve passive, reducing all incoming damage by 3%.
- Lyra's Quest: "Echoes of the Void" - Assist her in sealing a dimensional rift opened by a rogue C-Mato in the Astral Plane. Upon completion, Lyra gains the Mana Font passive, regenerating a small amount of mana for the entire party every 5 seconds.
Tactical Commands in Combat
During combat, you can issue specific commands to your companions to optimize their performance. Access these commands through the "Tactics Wheel" (default key: 'T').
Companion Quests and Loyalty
Each companion has a unique questline that, upon completion, not only reveals more about their backstory but also grants significant loyalty bonuses and often unlocks powerful new abilities or passive buffs.
Maintaining high loyalty through dialogue choices and completing their personal quests will ensure your companions perform at their peak and remain steadfast allies throughout your adventures in CloverPit.
