Co-op Mechanics

Code Vein offers a robust co-op experience, allowing you to team up with fellow Revenants to conquer the challenging Lost and formidable bosses. This guide will walk you through the essential steps to initiate and manage your multiplayer sessions, ensuring a smooth and effective collaboration.

Initiating Co-op Sessions

There are two primary methods for engaging in co-op: requesting assistance from other players or offering your aid. Both methods utilize the in-game communication system.

Requesting Aid (Host)

If you're struggling with a particular area or boss, you can summon another player to your world. Follow these steps:

  1. Locate a Mistle: Approach and activate any Mistle (the game's equivalent of bonfires).
  2. Access Multiplayer Menu: From the Mistle menu, select the "Multiplayer" option.
  3. Send Distress Signal: Choose "Send Distress Signal." This will broadcast your request for assistance to other players.
  4. Set a Password (Optional but Recommended): If you wish to play with a specific friend, select "Set Password" and enter a unique password. Share this password with your friend. This ensures only players with the correct password can join your session.
  5. Wait for a Partner: Once the distress signal is sent, the game will begin searching for available partners. You'll see a notification when another player joins your world.

Strategy Tip: Sending a distress signal near a boss arena or a particularly difficult section of a map (e.g., the Cathedral of the Sacred Blood) often yields faster results, as players frequently look to assist in those areas.

Offering Aid (Guest)

If you're looking to help other players and earn some valuable rewards, you can offer your services. This is an excellent way to farm Haze and various materials.

  1. Locate a Mistle: Just like requesting aid, you'll need to be at any activated Mistle.
  2. Access Multiplayer Menu: Select the "Multiplayer" option from the Mistle menu.
  3. Search for Distress Signals: Choose "Search for Distress Signals." The game will then search for players who have requested assistance.
  4. Enter Password (If Applicable): If you're joining a friend, select "Enter Password" and input the password they provided.
  5. Join a Session: Once a suitable host is found, you'll be prompted to join their session. Accept to be transported to their world.

Reward System: Successfully helping a host defeat a boss or clear an area will reward you with Haze and various items, including Awakening Materia and Queen Steel, which are crucial for upgrading your equipment and unlocking new Gifts.

Co-op Session Management

Once a co-op session is active, there are a few important mechanics to be aware of:

Communication

While voice chat is available, many players rely on the in-game emote system and quick messages for communication. Familiarize yourself with these options to effectively coordinate with your partner, especially when facing complex encounters.

  • Emotes: Access emotes through the quick menu to convey basic intentions like "Follow Me," "Wait," or "Thanks."
  • Quick Messages: Pre-set messages can be used for more specific communication, such as warning about traps or indicating a target.

Leaving a Co-op Session

You can leave a co-op session at any time, though it's generally good etiquette to complete the objective or at least inform your partner if you need to depart unexpectedly.

  • Via Mistle: Interact with a Mistle and select the "Return to Your World" option.
  • Using a Severed Thorn: This consumable item allows you to instantly return to your own world from anywhere on the map. Severed Thorns can be found as drops from enemies, in chests, or purchased from merchants.

Co-op Strategies and Best Practices

Effective teamwork is key to success in Code Vein's co-op. Consider these strategies:

  • Role Specialization: Discuss roles with your partner. One player might focus on tanking and drawing aggro, while the other provides ranged damage or healing support. Building complementary Builds can significantly enhance your effectiveness.
  • Gift Synergy: Coordinate your Gifts. For example, one player could use a Gift like Bridge to Glory to buff damage, while the other uses a defensive Gift like Iron Will.
  • Resource Management: Share healing items like Regen Inducers if one player is critically low. Remember that the host's Mistle charges are shared.
  • Exploration: Stick together during exploration to avoid being overwhelmed by multiple enemies. Ping points of interest or hidden paths to your partner.
  • Boss Encounters: For bosses, establish a clear strategy. Who will draw aggro? Who will focus on specific weak points? Utilize your partner's presence to create openings for powerful attacks.

By understanding and utilizing these co-op mechanics, you and your fellow Revenants can overcome even the most formidable challenges the world of Code Vein throws at you.
