Character education is a pivotal mechanic in Crusader Kings III, directly influencing your heir's future capabilities and the success of your dynasty. When a child reaches the age of 6, you must ass them a guardian and select an education focus. This choice sets them on a path that will shape their primary skill and potentially grant them valuable traits.

Education Paths

There are five primary education paths, each corresponding to one of the core character skills:

  • Martial Education: Focuses on combat, warfare, and military leadership. A successful Martial education will result in a high Martial skill and potentially traits like "Commander" or "Strategist."
  • Stewardship Education: Emphasizes managing your realm's economy, development, and taxation. A strong Stewardship education leads to a high Stewardship skill and traits like "Administrator" or "Frugal."
  • Diplomacy Education: Centers on influencing other characters, managing vassals, and navigating political relationships. A good Diplomacy education yields a high Diplomacy skill and traits like "Diplomat" or "Charming."
  • Intrigue Education: Involves espionage, scheming, and covert operations. A successful Intrigue education results in a high Intrigue skill and traits like "Schemer" or "Assassin."
  • Learning Education: Focuses on knowledge, technology, religion, and cultural development. A strong Learning education grants a high Learning skill and traits like "Scholar" or "Theologian."

Education Outcomes

The outcome of an education is determined by several factors, most importantly the skill of the guardian and the child's inherent aptitude. The education system uses a star rating (1 to 4 stars) to indicate the quality of the education received. A higher star rating means a greater increase in the relevant skill and a higher chance of acquiring positive education traits.

  • Guardian's Skill: The guardian's skill in the chosen education path is the most significant factor. A guardian with a high skill level will provide a much better education.
  • Child's Aptitude: While less impactful than the guardian, the child's base aptitude can also influence the outcome.
  • Random Events: Throughout the education period (from age 6 to 16), random events will occur that can positively or negatively impact the education's progress. These events often present choices that can further boost or hinder the child's development.

Upon reaching adulthood (age 16), the child will receive a primary education trait reflecting the success of their education. For example, a 4-star Martial education might grant the "Skilled" Martial education trait, providing a significant boost to Martial skill and combat prowess.

Choosing the right education path for your heir is crucial. Consider your dynasty's goals and your current realm's needs when making this decision. A strong military leader might be essential for expansion, while a skilled diplomat could be vital for maintaining peace and stability.
