Side Quests & Activities
Beyond the grand strategy of realm management and dynastic survival, Crusader Kings III offers a rich tapestry of smaller, engaging activities and "side quests" that can significantly impact your character's life, your relationships, and even the fate of your realm.
The Grand Hunt
Organizing a Grand Hunt is a fantastic way to boost your character's prowess, gain prestige, and improve relations with your vassals and courtiers who participate. It's a multi-stage event that involves tracking and engaging with various game animals. Success can lead to valuable rewards, including unique artifacts, increased opinion from participants, and even the acquisition of traits like "Hunter." Failure, however, can result in injury or even death.
The Grand Tournament
Similar to the hunt, the Grand Tournament is a prestigious event that allows your knights and courtiers to test their mettle in various martial contests. Participating can earn you prestige, gold, and the admiration of your peers. It's also an excellent opportunity to scout potential allies or rivals, and to showcase the martial strength of your realm. Winning tournaments can lead to powerful combat traits and a significant boost to your character's martial skill.
Feasts & Grand Weddings
Hosting feasts and grand weddings are essential for maintaining good relations within your court and with your vassals. These events provide opportunities to improve opinions, forge alliances through marriage, and even uncover potential plotters or spies. A well-hosted feast can significantly boost your character's "Diplomacy" skill temporarily and increase the "Opinion" of attendees. Grand weddings are particularly important for securing powerful alliances with other rulers.
Pilgrimages
For rulers with a strong faith, undertaking a pilgrimage can be a rewarding experience. These journeys involve traveling to significant religious sites, often facing various challenges and events along the way. Successful pilgrimages grant a substantial amount of piety and can lead to the acquisition of beneficial traits or even divine boons. They are a great way to increase your faith's authority and your personal devotion.
Patronage & Artifacts
You can commission artists, scribes, and craftsmen to create magnificent works of art, literature, and weaponry. These endeavors can be costly but often result in powerful artifacts that provide significant stat bonuses, prestige, or even unique event chains. Investing in your court's culture and patronage can lead to a more prosperous and prestigious realm.
