Black Knight
As you traverse the treacherous Road of Sacrifices, you'll inevitably encounter the formidable Black Knight. This iconic enemy, clad in his distinctive black armor and wielding a powerful Greatsword, serves as a significant challenge and a gatekeeper to further progression. Unlike many lesser foes, the Black Knight is not easily staggered and hits with immense force, capable of depleting your health bar in just a few swings. However, defeating him offers valuable rewards and a sense of accomplishment.
The key to overcoming the Black Knight lies in patience and understanding his attack patterns. He primarily uses wide, sweeping attacks with his Greatsword, often followed by a powerful overhead slam. His attacks are slow but have a wide arc, making dodging crucial. Consider using a shield with high physical absorption, such as the Lothric Knight Shield or the Dragon Crest Shield, to block his less damaging swings, but be wary of your stamina. Parrying is an option for experienced players, but the timing is tight and a failed parry can be devastating. Instead, focus on rolling through his attacks, specifically towards his sword arm, to create openings for a counter-attack. After he completes a combo, you'll typically have a brief window for 1-2 hits before he recovers. Fire damage is particularly effective against Black Knights, so consider using Charcoal Pine Resin on your weapon or throwing Firebombs if you have them. Be mindful of your surroundings; the area where he spawns can be tight, so try to lure him to a more open space if possible.
