Sister Friede (DLC - Included in this section for progression)
While Sister Friede is a boss from the Ashes of Ariandel DLC, we're including her here due to her unique role in the lore and the fact that many players encounter the DLC content around this point in their main game progression. Defeating her is not required to complete the main story of Dark Souls III, but it offers significant lore insights and a challenging, multi-phase boss fight that prepares you for later encounters.
Accessing the Painted World of Ariandel requires speaking to the NPC Gael at the Cleansing Chapel bonfire in the Cathedral of the Deep. He will transport you to the DLC area. While you can tackle this area at any time, a recommended Soul Level of 70-80 and a +7 or higher weapon upgrade is advisable for a balanced challenge against Friede and Father Ariandel.
Sister Friede is a three-phase boss. In her first phase, she is agile and uses invisibility. Listen for her footsteps and watch for frost effects to predict her attacks. The second phase introduces Father Ariandel, a large, slow enemy who can be staggered. Focus your damage on him while dodging Friede's ranged attacks. The final phase, Friede and Father Ariandel, combines their movesets. Prioritize Friede, as defeating her ends the fight. Consider using a summon like Gael for assistance, as he can draw aggro and provide valuable distractions.
