Slave Knight Gael (DLC - Included in this section for progression)

While Slave Knight Gael is the final boss of the Ringed City DLC, and by extension, the final boss of the entire Dark Souls III saga, we've opted to include his guide here. Many players, particularly those who have purchased the Season Pass or the Fire Fades Edition, will naturally progress through the DLC content after completing the main game or even before facing the Soul of Cinder. Gael's fight is a monumental challenge, serving as a fitting conclusion to the Dark Souls narrative, and understanding his mechanics is crucial for any completionist or lore enthusiast.

Gael's battle is a three-phase epic, demanding mastery of dodging, parrying (though risky), and careful resource management. He is highly resistant to most status effects, making raw damage and well-timed attacks your primary tools. Be prepared for a lengthy and intense engagement, as Gael's aggression and varied moveset will test your limits as an Ashen One.

Phase 1: The Slave Knight

  • Gael begins with a large, sweeping sword and a crossbow. His attacks are slow but hit hard.
  • Focus on rolling into his attacks to get behind him for a few hits.
  • Watch for his crossbow shots; they can be dodged or blocked, but blocking will drain stamina.
  • He has a jump attack that leaves him vulnerable for a short period after landing.
  • Consider using a fast weapon for this phase to get in quick damage and retreat.

Phase 2: The Red Hood

  • Gael gains increased aggression and new dark-infused attacks. His cape becomes a weapon.
  • He will often perform a series of rapid slashes followed by a powerful overhead swing.
  • Look out for his dark magic projectiles that he fires from his hand; these track well.
  • The arena will occasionally be struck by lightning, indicated by glowing spots on the ground. Avoid these.
  • This phase is about patience and punishing his recovery frames after his longer combos.

Phase 3: The Dark Soul

  • Gael is fully consumed by the Dark Soul, becoming incredibly fast and powerful.
  • He gains a new move where he teleports and unleashes a flurry of attacks.
  • His cape attacks are more frequent and cover a wider area.
  • The lightning strikes are more intense and frequent.
  • This is the most challenging phase. Stay calm, manage your stamina, and prioritize dodging over attacking.
  • Consider using a weapon with good reach to safely poke him during his recovery.
