Farming & Grinding

Success in Lordran often requires a dedicated effort to gather resources. While "Humanity Farming" has its own focused deep-dive elsewhere in this guide, this section provides a comprehensive overview of general grinding strategies for Souls and Upgrade Materials. To maximize your efficiency, always equip the Covetous Gold Serpent Ring (found in Sen's Fortress) and carry at least 10 "soft" Humanity to boost your Item Discovery to its cap of 410. For Soul farming, the Covetous Silver Serpent Ring and the Symbol of Avarice are essential tools to increase your yield per kill.

Top Farming Locations by Game Stage

  • Early Game (Souls): The bridge in Undead Burg. Trigger the Hellkite Drake’s fire breath to incinerate the Hollow Soldiers for an easy 555 souls per cycle. Alternatively, the Darkroot Garden (behind the Crest of Artorias door) is the premier spot; lure the NPC forest protectors to the cliff edge for 7,000+ souls in minutes.
  • Early/Mid Game (Materials):
    • Titanite Shards: Purchased from Andre of Astora (800 souls) or farmed from Balder Knights in the Undead Parish.
    • Large Titanite Shards/Green Shards: Farm the Slimes in the Depths (near the bonfire) or the Giant Leeches in the Blighttown swamp.
  • Mid Game (Souls & Humanity): The Painted World of Ariamis. Use an AoE spell like Fire Tempest or a wide-swinging weapon on the Phalanx group in the courtyard for massive Soul gains. This area also serves as a secondary source for Souls of a Brave Warrior.
  • Late Game (Upgrade Materials):
    • Titanite Chunks: Farm the Darkwraiths in New Londo Ruins (Lower level). This is also the only reliable way to farm Titanite Slabs (very rare drop).
    • Twinkling Titanite: Farm the Giant Clams in Ash Lake or the Crystal Caves before the Seath boss room.
    • Demon Titanite: Kill the Prowling Demon in Lost Izalith (near the shortcut), which respawns and guarantees two drops per kill.
  • End Game (Humanity): While the Rats in the Depths are fine early on, the Chasm of the Abyss (DLC) is the ultimate destination. The Humanity Phantoms here have an extremely high drop rate for both Humanity and Twin Humanity, far outpacing the Duke's Archives Pisaca farm.
