Understanding Aggression

Not all fish are just swimming around waiting to be harpooned. Some will actively attack you if you get too close or if they feel threatened. This is where your gear and quick thinking come into play.

Your Arsenal Against Aggression

• Harpoon Gun: Your trusty sidearm. Good for a quick jab, but sometimes a direct hit isn't enough to deter a determined attacker.
• Weapons: Beyond the harpoon, you'll find various weapons. These can stun or kill fish, but be mindful of the quality you get. Killing a fish outright usually results in fewer portions of meat compared to catching it alive.
• Tranquilizing Weapons (like the Hush Dart): These are fantastic for getting that coveted ★★★ rating without the fish fighting back too much. They'll sedate the fish, making it easier to handle. Keep in mind, though, some fish are immune to these.
• Net Guns (like the Small Net Gun): Nets are great for smaller fish and can also help you secure a ★★★ catch. However, some fish are just too big to be caught in a net, so it's not a universal solution.

Handling Large Fish

When you're dealing with bigger guys, things get a bit more complex. A dead large fish cut up underwater with a knife gives you 10 portions of meat. If the Salvage Drone picks up a dead large fish, you get 15 portions. But the real prize is catching a large fish alive and having the drone pick it up – that nets you a whopping 27 portions!

Pro Tip: Don't try to game the system by cutting a chunk out of a large dead fish and then having the drone pick up the rest. You'll only get 5 portions from the first cut and then 10 from the drone, which is less than if you'd just let the drone handle the whole thing.

Getting the Best Quality (★★★)

To consistently get the best quality ★★★ fish, your best bet is usually sedation with a tranquilizing weapon or using a net. Remember, sedation works on most fish (except those immune to weapons), while nets have size limitations. Some fish, like seahorses caught with a bug net, are almost guaranteed to be ★★★.
