Welcome to Blackreef, Colt! You’re about to embark on a mind-bending journey through a time loop, where death is merely a temporary setback and knowledge is your most powerful weapon. This introductory section will guide you through your very first loops, helping you understand the core mechanics and setting the stage for your mission: breaking the loop by eliminating eight Visionaries before the day resets.

Your First Awakening: The Beach

You’ll awaken on a cold, desolate beach in Updaam, disoriented and with no memory. Your first priority is to understand your immediate surroundings and escape the relentless pursuit of Julianna.

  • Initial Objective: Follow the on-screen prompts to move and look around.
  • First Encounter: Julianna will quickly make her presence known. Don't engage; your current objective is survival.
  • Finding Shelter: Head towards the dilapidated bunker ahead. Inside, you'll find your first weapon: a LIMP-10 submachine gun.
  • Navigating the Bunker: Proceed through the bunker, taking out any Eternalists you encounter. This is your chance to practice basic combat.
  • Exiting the Bunker: You'll eventually emerge into a more open area of Updaam. Continue following the path.
  • The Radio: You'll soon come across a radio. Interact with it to hear Julianna's taunts and receive your next objective.

The First Death & The Loop's Revelation

Your initial attempts to escape will inevitably lead to your first death, which is a crucial part of understanding Blackreef's unique predicament.

  • Julianna's Intervention: Julianna will corner you, leading to your first unavoidable death. Embrace it!
  • The Loop Resets: You'll reawaken on the beach, just as before. This is your first concrete evidence of the time loop.
  • New Objective: Your goal is now to find a way to break this endless cycle.

Exploring Updaam: Morning

With a clearer understanding of the loop, your next objective is to reach the Condition Detachment in Updaam. This will involve some light exploration and combat.

  • Re-arm: Grab the LIMP-10 from the bunker again.
  • Path to Condition Detachment: Follow the main path through Updaam. You'll encounter more Eternalists. Use cover and your weapon effectively.
  • The Condition Detachment: Upon reaching the building, you'll find a terminal. Interact with it to progress the story. This is where you'll begin to piece together the larger mystery.
  • The Safe: Inside the Condition Detachment, you'll find a safe. The code is usually found nearby on a note or whiteboard. Look for clues!

The Visionaries & Your Mission

Through your initial explorations and communications with Julianna, you'll learn about the Visionaries – the eight individuals responsible for maintaining the loop. Your ultimate goal is to eliminate all of them within a single loop.

  • Understanding the Visionaries: Each Visionary has a unique schedule and location throughout Blackreef. Learning these patterns is key to your success.
  • First Target Hint: Julianna will often drop hints about the Visionaries' whereabouts. Pay attention to her dialogue.
  • The Arsenal: As you progress, you'll gain access to more powerful weapons, Trinkets (passive buffs), and Slabs (supernatural abilities).

Introducing Wenjie Evans: What Wenjie's Wants

Your first major lead will point you towards Wenjie Evans, a brilliant but eccentric scientist. Her research is crucial to understanding the loop.

  • Location: Wenjie is typically found in The Complex during the Afternoon.
  • Objective: Your initial goal related to Wenjie will be to reach her lab and gather information.
  • Navigating The Complex: The Complex is a sprawling research facility. Be prepared for numerous Eternalists and potentially turrets.
  • Finding Wenjie's Lab: Follow the objective markers. The lab is usually well-marked.
  • The Discovery: Inside her lab, you'll find evidence of her experiments and the true nature of the loop. This will often involve interacting with terminals or picking up specific documents.

Afternoon Delight: Charlie Montague

Another early Visionary you'll encounter is Charlie Montague, the host of a twisted game show. He's often found in Karl's Bay during the Afternoon.

  • Location: Charlie's game, "Condition Detachment," is located in Karl's Bay.
  • Objective: Your initial objective might be to simply observe or infiltrate his game.
  • Infiltrating the Game: This often involves finding a way into the game show set, which can be heavily guarded. Look for alternative entry points or stealth opportunities.
  • Gathering Intel: Even if you don't eliminate Charlie on your first encounter, gathering intel on his routine and the layout of his area is invaluable for future loops.
